Re-painting a guitar: Primer coat question

Snoogles

Cranky-dologist
Going to strip the guitar down of its original paint job. its easy. just flakes right off with a razor blade.

then i want to paint abstract line art in black (posca pen?), over a white background.

if i use a white primer coat, can this also function as the white background? or do i need to do some other form of white paint on top of the white primer?

i want to do a polyurethane gloss finish

White primer as the base coat will be fine, you just have to have lay it down thick enough to not see anything underneath. (Assuming the primer will be going over the original sealer, so that shouldn't be a problem.)
