Hey everyone! I posted this on Reddit a couple of days ago, and I haven't received any helpful feedback. I'm hoping someone can help here.
I’ve always been a massive Nirvana fan, and the quirky body style of the Jag-Stang has always been super appealing to my eyes. I recently managed to acquire a 1996 model, but the factory components are old, cheap, and a bit dusty.
Because of that, I’m gutting all the electronics and replacing them with brand new pots, a new output jack, and new pickups (Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas Hot in the neck, and an SH-4 JB in the bridge). I am keeping the two original slider switches since they still function perfectly, and I’m also adding a treble bleed circuit to the volume pot.
Here is where I need some help. I absolutely do not like the way the factory Jag-Stang/Mustang switches function. It's just too much to think about while playing. I wanted to rewire the guitar so it functions much more intuitively like other traditional guitars, but still keeps that cool Kurt Cobain aesthetic with the slider switches.
I can do basic pickup swaps, but re-configuring switch functions like this from scratch is totally new territory for me. I mapped out a custom diagram and wanted to see if more experienced eyes could review it to make sure my logic is actually going to work.
Here is exactly what I am trying to achieve with this diagram:

Here is exactly what I am trying to achieve with this diagram:
- Top Switch (Master Pickup Selector): Wired with a crisscross pattern to act exactly like a standard Les Paul 3-way toggle.
- UP: Neck Only
- MIDDLE: Neck + Bridge (Parallel)
- DOWN: Bridge Only
- Bottom Switch (Bridge Mode & Killswitch): Dictates what the JB humbucker is doing, plus a master mute.
- UP: Full Humbucker
- MIDDLE: Coil-Split
- DOWN: Master Mute (Killswitch)
