Real Duncan???

Im going to trade one not-THAT-good lp of mine on a PRS singlecut. Definitely worth, but here's the problem: Mine has original Seymour Duncan PU, an JB. The "seller" says that the PRS has SD PU's too, but im a little doubtful with it's veracity...
He seems to be a little lay... and he doesnt know the PUs models...
He's on another state(SP) and his mom is coming to mine(RJ) next week, so she will bring his guitar and take mine. That way I can't unmount the PU's mounting to see the baseplate or anything like that before she arrives here.

First of all: Looks like he have put a bridge pickup on the neck position, since the pole pieces are not on the neck side. That's a bit weird

Second: Looking for the writing on his pickups, it seems to be a different font.

Third: He said that he took the strings off last week, but wtf, why not to put new ones?? IDK, maybe he's trying to hide something... And the speed knobs are not the originals. Its ok, i'll change'em later but getting all that togheter, there IS a chance that he had put fake PU's on the guitar?

(The black flamed is the PRS and the red quilted is my LP with original SD(On avatar) )

I've seen a video that someone posted on his facebook of him playing a TOTALLY out of tune guitar... he really doesnt seem to know not even a little about guitars... I asked him know if he bought from someone else. Maybe he already bought her that (maybe f*cked) way and doesnt know... but anyway, what do you guys think about that topics about the pickups?

Re: Real Duncan???

Can you send some pics with the pickups out of the guitar so we can see some part numbers?
That would help a ton!

Welcome to the forum.

Take the initiative by saying that you want to let the purchaser see that your SD humbucker is genuine. It would, then, not seem unreasonable to expect the vendor to extend the same courtesy to you in return.

He's on another state(SP) and his mom is coming to mine(RJ) next week, so she will bring his guitar and take mine.

This "third party" transaction is potentially dodgy. Be very wary.

Using a bridge/Treble position pickup in the neck/Rhythm position looks unconventional but should function perfectly well.

The typeface on SD pickups changed a couple of years ago.

Use the fact that the strings are off the vendor's to guitar angle for a discount. In your position, I would also ask to be shown proof of purchase. (Request this before the vendor's mother travels to visit you.)

I can't... thats the problem, actually.

Thanks!!
As I said, he doesnt seem to know a thing about guitars, i dont think he will do that... When I offered my guitar, he doesnt have asked ANYTHING about it, seemed to accept just by its look. I've asked what SD models the PRS have, he replied "the best" lmao
I'm trading my LP (It's good and i really like her, although a bit cheap 'cause of the brand) and an Yamaha psr210 (that i don't use anymore) on that PRS SE. He loved the Yamaha and i think he is trading just because of it. Which makes a bit of sense, since he doesnt seem to know anything about guitars.

In the worst case scenario, i can sell that "nridge" PU and buy a real neck position...
He told me that she's all original  So i think he already bought her that way from someone else.
Anyway, maybe I'm just too much concerned about it... He doesnt seem to have a point nor expertise to try to fake something, i dont know.

And about the third part transaction, I don't think it will be a dangerous thing to me... He will send his guitar and here i can check all that stuff, play it... If she's not as he's telling me, so sorry, I'll refuse it. He will get mine without that possibility.

Re: Real Duncan???

They look fairly real from those pictures. The holes in the bobbins look correct, as do the baseplates. What you may want to do is pop the back cover off and check the wiring. Make sure they're either proper 4 conductor wiring (with red and white taped off, black to the switch or volume pot, and green and bare to ground) or metal shielded two conductor wiring (if they're 59s.)

He's got a bridge pickup in the neck. Not too big of a deal if it's a 59b. If it's an SH-6, that could be an issue with output. :D

THANKS! I was thinking about something like that, didnt knew about that shielded of 59s.. It's less evasive and much more a ok thing to do than loosening the strings to remove the pickups and check the base.

Re: Real Duncan???

That neck pickup is most likely a 59 bridge, 4-conductor. You can see a white wire in there on the left hand side. A single conductor would likely have only black wires in there. You can also tell it doesn't have a whole wrap of tape. Just the tape on the one side with the wires, like a 59. The wire appears brownish/purple which limits it to 59 or Pearly Gates, since it's not likely a logo'd uncovered Seth Lover.

She's in REALLY great condition and with REAL duncan's!
Jazz Bridge on neck and Pearly Gates (in love with it) on the bridge.
Thanks guys!!

Re: Real Duncan???

Hey, that worked out great didn't it? Really glad to hear you like the guitar and pickups. The Jazz bridge in the neck is a bit strange and I can't imagine those pickups are stock on an SE model Singlecut. I'd be almost certain someone who previously owned the guitar installed those. Probably ordered the pickups online and goofed on the neck pickup and ordered a bridge model. As long as you like the way it sounds though, that's all that matters. If you ever do change it, a PG neck or a Seth Lover neck go best with that PG bridge (just my opinion of course).

Good luck and its a great looking guitar!

Great looking and plays like a dream!
Probably I'll put a Slash's signature on the neck or a PRS Dragon I.
They're definitely not stock, but whoever installed them have made a good job, very clean and well soldered.
Ive discovered that it also has a treble bleed mod on the volume pot! Really in love with all that stuff!
