REAL lawrence 500XL?

did dime(RIP) use these before the dimebucker?
if so it sounds as good as the EMG 81 if not better
anyone here own a real lawrence 500XL?

Dime had some custom wound Lawrence 500XL's, referred to as 500XXL, not available to the public. The Dimebucker was supposed to be an improved version of that pickup

He also used the L500XL for a little while I believe, a forum bro told me the Dimebucker is quite similar to the L500XL. I own one and I think it sounds great, very metal though! I actually traded my old EMG81 for a L500XL and I couldn't be more happy, sure it had less output, but it had more bottom end and most importantly more character! It isn't a superhigh output passive pick up like the X2N though. I can totally nail the Peace Sells Mustaine tone (which he also used on that album) with this pick up

yeah, i prefer the 500XL over the 81 anyday - but i've yet to try a dimebucker

it's cleans could be accomodated for in a last gasp situtation, unlike the 81, where any kind of preamp gain has to be turned down. lovely lead voice too

I have a real deal XL500 and I love it. I used to have EMG 81/85 set and I can tell you the XL500 is by far the better pickup. I has personality and dosent sound sterile. I ordered them with the chrome surrounds and they look sweet. Click on my name and check my profile. Btw, the neck pickup is a L500C. BTW, If you want the XL500 to be even hotter, install an EMG SPC instead of one of your toneknobs and you will love it. I certainly do!!! They were hot before but, now the are just off the hook.

they're both very articulate under distortion- the emg does sound very scooped and in a band situation it's recognisable by a charactistic 'ssssssh' above other guitars - they seem to peak out at a different (higher) freqency to passives...

as for the 500XL... man. got my own from WFD now, rips the 81 a new ass. so much chunk, and a screaming solo tone

i liked the 81 for some things, but i LOVE the 500XL now

i have a set of 500XL (real deal from the mid 80's) and love them ... the are articulate and totally balanced across the frequeny range ... i've been offered a fortune for them, but they will be in this guitar forever

How does that 500XL compare to the SH-13?
From what all of you say about the XL, It sounds just like the Dime...
