Real MOP tuner buttons for my Hamer

crusty philtrum

Vintageologist
They don't make me sound better or play better but this guitar deserves something special. So I bought her these genuine mother-of-pearl replacement buttons for the Schaller machine heads. (They are not the more common 'pearloid' {read : plastic} ones available from Schaller and Stewmac). Took a couple of weeks to get here from the UK, but it was worth the wait. Unfortunately my camera is not really up to the job of capturing just how good these things (and the guitar) look in real life, but anyway, here's a rough idea.

Lovely guitar. And it looks even better in real life? Wow!

Re: Real MOP tuner buttons for my Hamer

A definite improvement. My own taste would have been for buttons in that snotty grey/green Kluson Keystone colour but what do I know? :D

Meanwhile, I think I know what my Ibanez S Classic will be getting for its next birthday. :naughty:

Here's another source I found while searching for good buttons, but unfortunately it seems they are not selling them at the moment....worth keeping an eye on though.....check out how beautiful the range is ..... (obviously they are far superior photos than my rather average efforts above)

You sod. Polished bone keystone/tulip style buttons. :banghead: Damb and blast! Er, do they offer any buttons in polished Dodo breastbone? Failing that, how about cackapo talons?

Haha, yeah, that is a very frustrating page to have found. Stunning products that they will not sell to anyone (just as well really, unless you plan to thread them onto a string and wear them as some kind of jewelry). They don't mention having metal inserts though for the screw-on ones, which the Rothesay Music ones do have, and which ensures a good fit and minimises the chances of cracking or splitting the buttons.

You may want to talk with these guys a little bit before you make a decision on what to buy. The discussion that I had invovled utilizing an existing sleeve from my Gibson/Schaller M6 Buttons on my Mick Jones Les Paul. Unfortunately, after removing the original buttons, I discovered that there is no seperate internal sleeve. That is why I ordered the Real MOP Buttons from Rothesay Music because they contained the subject metal sleeve.

Best regards.

Oh yeah, nice. I hadn't seen a pic of that one. I used to have one that was similar... fewer appointments on mine. Hamers are great!

Re: Real MOP tuner buttons for my Hamer

Good looking buttons, Crusty. They go nicely with the guitar.

Welcome to the forum, Matt Wahl.

Re: Real MOP tuner buttons for my Hamer

Where could I get some Gibson style buttons? (tan/greenish that are on all the LP)

Have a look at the link I posted in post #5 .... this one .....

They have what you want but they seem to have a problem with them at the moment, but keep checking in to see when they (hopefully) are selling them again. You could maybe email them to enquire when they think their range of buttons will be available again. Maybe you could contact the ebay seller where I got these ones from and ask if he can get hold of the keystone style buttons for you? Here's a link to their ebay store .....
