Really digging hot rodded Marshall tones... Soldano, SPlawn, others?

Re: Really digging hot rodded Marshall tones... Soldano, SPlawn, others?

I was in LA and tried stopping by TOne Merchants, but it did not work out. THeres a local high end shop with Bogner, SPlawn, Freidman and I think SOldano amps in shop that I am going to scope out.

100 watt Bogner Helios. Pretty much everything else is an "also ran". I understand you poor schlumpfs don't have four grand to throw at an amp though .Me , myself, and I, we only got a pissant '78 JMP with pedals. Myabe one day Rheinholdt will modify my JMP? I know Dave Freidman will probably.I don't think Bogner would. I wouldn't modify an original '78 JMP though, that would be too stupid.

I have an 81 2204 and a '99 Bogner XTC 101B. Both are different sounds and very usable. The 2204 is much closer to a Plexi than to a Bogner. The XTC is a real work of art, high gain Marshall, or Plexi, the tones are in that box.

I had a fun day yesterday, when it comes to high gain amps. I went to GC Sherman Oaks. They had all the Friedmans and the new Jubilee. It's been 25 years since I owned my 2555, and the new one sounds just as good as the 87. I love my 2550, but the 100 watter slays.

In one day, I got to play GC's
Friedman small box, Brown Eye, Steve Stevens, Bad Cat Hot Cat 100, Diezel Einstein, & Jubilee 2555.

Then, came home and jammed on my Jubilee 2550 for comparison to the new 2555, 86 2204, and Bogner XTC.

All of them sounded great, but I'd say my Bogner, Friedman BE and Small Box 50, and new 2555 won my personal shootout. All of them are incredible at what they do.

Wow!! So Jealous.. The GC in Jax Doesnt carry hardly any real amps.. Definately nothing in the way of boutiques such as Friedman or Bogner..

Yeah, most GC's just stock the typical fare. Hollywood and Sherman Oaks have the clientele with big money, so they stock a lot of high end gear.

While most GC's are scaling back, they actually remodeled Sherman Oaks and Hollywood.
