I like the recessed floyd setup better in the jackson. Floyd on the charvel felt so high and uncomfortable to me.

And see, that's gotta be one reason why the Charvels work for me. I have played Les Pauls for 30 years, and I'm used to the higher tune-a-matic bridge. The raised Floyd on the Charvel allows for palming the bridge like I do on a Les Paul, and the recessed Floyd of the Jackson didn't.

I just picked up a Candy Purple Charvel Tele. The necks on those are unbelievable, it's made me want to start playing again. Once you pick one up you can't put it down, it just encourages you to play and shred.

The white SoCal pickguard models sold out quickly as everyone sees it as a cheaper alternative to the Jackson Adrian Smith strat.

They sound different than a Jackson soloist, Charvels have more bite and attack. The Charvel necks are a little thicker, the fretboards rounded and oiled instead of finished.

Ive heard the necks are thick, that is what turns me off to them.. I like thin necks. But I love the looks and would love to try one of the oiled necks

I think I had this guitar in 1985. My guitar player bought one and decided he didn't like playing a Floyd. Bend this string up and you bend all the others DOWN = bad juju. So he sold it to me cheap.


I''m a bass player who plays AT everything else, so I got tired of the Charvel almost as fast as he had. I sold it in 1987.

While the Mary Kaye looks pretty, and should sound like the epitome of a great Strat, it's just not the same guitar as the Charvel San Dimas or So-Cal. Nobody who wants a Charvel is going to get the sounds they want from a Stratocaster with those specs.

Understood. It was the first Strat that came to mind when I saw the Charvel. I suppose something with the looks of the MK and the acrobatics of the Charvel would be a delightful pair.
