.......by high gain i am not meaning anything scooped, metal-ish e.t.c.....just a pedal capable of producing a warm lead high gain sound in the clean channel of my amp..........i've tried the boss od 20 but it seems a little bit digital to my ears and i am afraid the line 6 dm4 will be the same too (maybe not???)......

The Boss Mega Distortion is one of my favorites. Also, check eBay for the old Zoom Tri-Metal and Hyper Lead pedals. In general, I really like Boss distortions, but I guess it is a matter of taste. Even the ODB-3 for bass sounds awesome with guitar. It reaches pretty heavy distortion levels, has a 2-knob EQ section, and the blend feature adds unique flavor.

Some people like the H&K warp factor, it gets good reviews and some people love them. I personally use a Digitech Grunge pedal. It's kind of a misnomer, because it's not really a dirt pedal it's really a high gain pedal, it's pretty cheep too.

Re: Reccomend me a good high gain pedal....

I have trouble getting usable sounds out of the Grunge. I recently stumbled upon a more musical setting on it, but it was still way to much distortion for my taste. The Boss I mentioned can get just as heavy, but it can be controlled more easily. There's a Tech-21 pedal that I really liked, but I forgot the name of it.

In addition to the Crunch Box, the MI Audio Tube Zone is another amazing high gain pedal that can go from mellow overdrive to heavy distortion. The number of sounds you can get out of it is amazing, one of the most flexible ODs I've ever played.

Cheers,

CJ

What is your budget ?

Lately i love the tones of the Expandora - for high gain stuff, and if you have more money to burn (in a good way), do look into the H&K TubeFactor.

A friend left his Peavey Classic 30 and H&K Tubeman (more expensive ver.) w. me for a week, and he nearly did NOT get it back !!!

Tonebone Hot British, you won't beat it and it turns any crystal clean channel into a monster!

Re: Reccomend me a good high gain pedal....

Seymour Duncan Booster (25dB of non-tone altering clean gain) Slam a tube front end with that, and things get fairly wild...

sans amp?? anyways, my vote would be Boss OD-1....i thinks its the od-1...its the orange one, like 40 bucks. good warm distortion, yet still fairly heavy, but not really metal...

I think it was the Sans Amp Classic. That thing is awesome. It's like $280.

I checked the MI AUDIO site and their samples and they seem (at least from the samples) the most impressive ones, worth checking out........

Re: Reccomend me a good high gain pedal....

price range? i recomend the tone bone hot british if price is not a big deal. it is not too much at abought 250 new... a used one will run for $150, but it is well worth it. It is one of the greatest overdrive pedals out the by far... smooth, articulate, and rich... a great pedal to own. I didnt sell it, but i needed the money for college... and still do... god i hate being broke...help this brother out yall

Re: Reccomend me a good high gain pedal....

I like the old Marshall DriveMaster for crunch to hard overdrive. Works well to push a tube head too...
