Reccommend a Good Tube Combo

Can anyone suggest some decent combo amps. I'm looking at something no louder than 30 watts.

To give you guys an idea of what I'm looking for: I was going to buy a Gibson Goldtone 30 watt stereo combo, but it's just not feasible as far as money goes.

Can anyone suggest some decent tube combos along these lines - a good clean that takes pedals well?

Peavey Classic 30 or look into some of the very decently priced Carvin combos..Both offer great amps at a great value!

Re: Reccommend a Good Tube Combo

Crate V32 Palomino, good tone for a good price. Voxey cleans and marshally overdrive and takes pedals well.

Re: Reccommend a Good Tube Combo

+1 on the Crate V32, or even the V3112 which is the same amp without all the fancy outerware.

I want to add in one for the Zinky Blue Velvet 25. Awesome amp but higher priced than those already mentioned.

I dunno about pedals, but I have recorded a lot with a Budda SuperDrive 30 2x12 (the older models before the company changed). I cannot comment on the new ones, but the older ones are soooo toneful. Right between a Vox and a Plexy, very rich, great OD, nice FX loop, 2 channels. Great chimey clean!

Crate V32 Palomino. The build quality isn't up there with my Marshall or Mesa stuff but the tone is there. Put a TS9 in front of it and you can cover clean to metal with that amp. I got one out the door at the local GC for $425.

The Classic 30a are nice as well.

Re: Reccommend a Good Tube Combo

I love my Peavey Valve King its cleans are nice but if you plan on using the effects loop run far away from it.

Re: Reccommend a Good Tube Combo

"No louder than 30Watts" doesn't really say much. Luke's 18W Dr. Z is louder than most, if not all, 30W amps I've heard. ;)

For what I'm gathering that you're looking for, I think the Classic 30 is definitely worth checking into. There are a ton of good amps in that range, though, so don't be afraid to try as many as possible.

What about the Traynors. I haven't heard the YCV 20, but my YCV 40 has great cleans and overdrive. It is kinda hard to play at low volumes, but the 20 would probably be fine. They're on eBay for reasonable prices, too. I got mine for $305.

The Goldtones came from the Trace Elliot Velocette line when Gibson bought them a few years ago. I can assure you, if the rating is the same as it used to be, the Gibsons 30 watts is WAY louder than your standard amps 30 watts.

My Trace Elliot Velocette 15 watter just BURIED my Peavey Classic 30. I could plug it into a 4x12 cabinet and with the additional speakers it was enough for me to be playing mid-sized venues.

I only mention this because if you're looking for a comprable amp volume-wise to the Goldtone you may very well need to be looking at more than 30 watts. That is, if the Goldtones wattage are still mis-leading.

BTW....they're amazing amps. Expensive, but if you can wait to put together the cake, I would HIGHLY recommend it.

Re: Reccommend a Good Tube Combo

I've pretty much settled on a Carvin BelAir - I've heard great cleans from this thing, and according to the reviews I've read, it takes pedals well.

The soak channel (dirty channel) clips I've heard are okay, but I'll probably end up doing the mods I've read about..

I might be interested in a Budda, but I haven't really heard any cleans clips, so I can't really make my final decision just yet.

GOODJOB w/CARVIN------I'm gettin either a BELAIR, NOMAD, OR VINTAGE16------THEN send it to HASSEL to MOD IT!!!

--He'll mod a v16 for $80.
---he'll mod a belair for $130.

You can find him a CARVIN FORUM-----he does awsome work I've heard!

--I'm gonna get a used Carvin & send him the chassis'(saveonshipping).

I cant see buying a NEW CARVIN & having him tear into it(kill the warranty).

BUT I'M GETTIN A CARVIN I TELL YA!!
