My 1st post, long time reader. Just wanted to say hello and give my personal takes on some recent PUPS I have installed recently. Older guy, long time guitar fan and newer player. I was gonna buy an expensive LP but been experimenting with Epiphones and having new harnesses installed.
My take on the Sentient is AWESOME. No matter what bridge PUP you use, the Sentient is a keeper. I now have it in two of my guitars and they aint coming out. Nice liquid sounds, not too boomy. Like Duncan says, take the best of the Jazz and 59 combine them, you have the Sentient.
One guitar its in has a Pegasus and the other has the Nazgul in the bridge. I find the Pegasus to be even keeled, maybe somewhat polite? Not really a screamer like you may think. The Nazgul is a BEAST. Some may say shrill? Got one serious GROWL tho! I roll my tone knob down and get a nice classic rock style rhythm tone. I read a post on here where people dont use their tone knob? Not sure why TBH. My last el cheapo is a 11 lb cheapo LP style I got online cheap. That one has the JB/Jazz combo and is my #1. I have read where people say the JB doesnt get along with mahogany, well I must have got lucky because she SCREAMS and I like the vowel sound myself. Action is low, no buzz, man she is shweet!!
My next attempt is gonna be an Alt 8, can anyone give me an idea of where she would fit in? Which types of woods does it seem to jell with?
Have a great and safe holiday season all and sorry to drone on, I have a serious GAS problem LOL. Btw, they all get played thru my white new EVH 50 watt head and 2x12 Hughs Cab, channel 2 is the most distortion I go. Gain round noon
