A refret will effect the value of the instruments value in the vintage market.

As far as letting GC work on your axes.....hey....if you're willing to deal with Chimps you have to expect a certain amount of ****-throwing now and again.

Call it a lesson learned...

It can & will if it's done badly!

Here's one that's better then the tire analogy...if the engine just needed a tune-up and new spark plugs & somebody decided to bore out the cylinder heads (which would increase your horsepower) and cracked the block...

a) What would happen to the value of the car?

b) What would happen to the driveabilty if the engine is shot?

b) What would you do (or want to do!) to the chucklehead who did the work???

You're a North NJ cat...go bring that thing over to Lark Street Music in Teaneck or at the very least give 'em a call. I can't remember if they do repairs or not but I'm pretty sure they do setups. Either way I know they'd be happy to look at it and tell you what the real deal is.

It's a REAL guitar shop...vintage & just plain great instruments run by some great people. Just be sure to wear a bib so you don't slip in a puddle of your own drool when you get there!

Hopefully this won't expereince won't turn into a super expensive lesson or leave you with a "trashed" guitar that might cost a few hunderd bucks to fix.

Good luck!

Not that i know, atleast.

People who play their guitar alot often get their frets replaced every three to five years. :)
How successfully can it be done? Is it just better than scrapping the axe, or would you never know the difference?

They do? I think I'm behind about 3-4 fret changes then because I play a lot...every day in fact. Have never had a refret, or needed one. I took my '88 Baretta to a tech I know for what I thought was going to be a refret. Turned out it just needed a level/crown/polish and it plays like new. Same with 2 other guitars I have, all older than 10 years.

Re: Recent set-up at GC...

Well.... atleast my guitar teacher, who plays gigs almost every nigth, and uses the same guitar when teaching his students, says that he's changed his frets every four years or so since he got the guitar.

Anyway, after all, i'm stupid. Kick me.

I don't think this is completely true. Maybe if you have really crappy frets.

No way, don't trust 'em...

I only recommended them because they're blithering idjits with a super star clientle & LOTS of super high end & vintage stuff.

:stooges:

Yes, that's sarcasm!

Have no fear.

I've never had guitar work done there but I've made some purchases over the years. Buzzy's good people, he'll set 'ya straight.
