Recognizing humbuckers

Re: Recognizing humbuckers

a) Measure the DC resistance of the pickup
b) Post clear photos the back, the front and maybe from the side (which shows the bar magnet and the spacer - the side should not be taped or untape it yourselfs).

If you do so, you get a good appraisal from the forum bros.

Re: Recognizing humbuckers

most seymours have a label under the baseplate for IDing the model,as well as dimarzio's that have a engraved plate or now i believe they use a sticker as well? If you cant take the pu out to inspect hopfully it is a newer uncovered duncan then it will look like this,

at least you know it is a duncan of some sort that way! LOL

Usually; not all Duncans are marked. Loosen the strings and flip the PU's over and see what they say. There's no substitute for that. Never pay for upgraded PU's without verifying they're in the guitar.

I recently bought an Epi '58 Flying V and it sounded great, way better than it should have, but the seller didn't mention anything about upgrading PU's. Very clear, deep, and well-defined tones. Could Epiphone be using high-quality PU's? No. I flipped them over when I changed strings, and sure enough, they were DiMarzios.

I always found it nearly impossible to id some Dimarzios. Aside from the Super D and X2N, I found no markings relating to the model, whatsoever. Maybe things have changed?

Sometimes they stamp the baseplate with the model number, other times it's a sticker.
