The e609 is especially nice for playing live, since you can just dangle it by the mic cable without using a stand. If this is for recording you should probably put it on a stand anyway, but it's still a great mic for your amp.
My standard approach for recording a high gain tone is an e609 about two inches from the center of the speaker, and an MD 421 about two inches from the edge of the speaker. The two mics complement each other, and you get more low end punch than with just the single e609.
I'm of the belief that the SM57 is pretty good, but there are better choices for almost every application, including guitar amps.
