Recommend a good and cheap solid state, high wattage head for heavy tones.

Simple as that. Is there anything out there worth it that's SS for this goal?
I'm thinking 90's Peaveys and stuff like that.
Assuming I have a good cab and everything.

Recently, I bought an Orange CR60. It has seriously impressed me. So I'd like to suggest its big brother, the Orange CR120. It does come in a head version. This amp is voiced like a Rockerverb.

Fender M80 PRO - tank reverb and serious high gain tone. You can usually find them used for around $125 - $150

My Randall T2HL (Scaled-down/100 watt version of the 400 watt T2) is a total monster for high gain...nice cleans too and it won't break the bank. It's not strictly SS though if that's an issue. The preamp is all-tube & the power section is buffered by a 12AT7...

super cheap and makes for a great backup amp later on when u get a tube ampz

Could you share a bit more info on these? I literally just got home from my local music shop, and they had one of these used for ~$200. I know next to nothing about the brand, and came home with the sole intent of googling to see if it'd be worth the cash. Lo and behold, here we go! Any info is definitely appreciated.

reminder that the guitarists and bassist in Red Fang use solid state Sunn heads AND THEY SOUND CRUSHING!!!

I looked after their gig and they each have only one pedal! very minimalist.



I dont doubt that Orange cr120 would sound crushing in a similar mix setting as well, but meh on all solid state versus Tube that actually takes pedals well:

One muso over here imported one from the States.

I have not played one in person, only heard it.
The clean tone is pretty bloody good for a high gain SS amp.
But it is the almost tube-like gain tone that Dimebag was so famous for that makes this head so great.
It sounds 'kinda' like is old WARHEAD amps, but with more of a tube-like tone.
Yes, still fully blown SS, but with more of a natural feel and response.
See what Youtube has to offer regarding these.
For 200.00, *I* would DEFF get one . . . no question !

The DIME is Dean's "dime bag" amp. I have played these a few times and on stage. Honestly, they are pretty cool. You can absolutely go Pantera no problem. But they are very flexible surprisingly.

I would also suggest a Randall RG200? Whatever their ss 200 watt head is. Great amp.

Peavey Valvestate is never a bad choice.

You might also consider…..A Crate Powerblock + Distortion pedal of choice. Small, cheap, and awesome. Adding a channel is as simple as adding another pedal.

Powerblock + Vitoos Metallab = :headbang:

or a Metal Muff, or a Metal Mayhem, or whatever floats your boat.

WTF is a Peavey Valvestate? Or you mean Peavey Transtube? Or a Marshall Valvestate?
