Fulltone 69 Pedal.
I've tried the 70's pedal too, but it sounds brighter and harsher. The 69 is the one you want. Plus, it looks cool as hell.

The Fulltone stuff is great, I also happtn to really LOVE my Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz (his other stuff is also great) as well as countless other fuzz boxes but to be honest a Duncan Tweak fuzz is very useable, sounds great, yeilkds several good fuzzy tones and costs very little...great unit and it is the fuzz tone thats on my board as we speak!

Foxx Tonemachine, just add a booster after it and have some awesome fuzz.
And if you have money to throw around, Cornish NG-2, and some of his other boxes...kinda walks over the rest of the pedals in the world

I agree that the tweak fuzz sounds great, BUT it wasn't loud enough for me. Everytime I would kick it in, there was a volume drop, even if I had the volume maxed. I had to sell it because of that.

Look for an Arbiter fuzz face or a fuzz face based circuit. The '69 is pretty faithful with improvements IIRC. The '70 has Si trannys. Colorsound Tonebender Prof Mk II, Vox Tonebender (although it sounds more like the fuzz on Electric Mud than Electric Ladyland), and the Nine Volt Nirvana fuzz pedal come to mind as other similar circuits.

I've found that this sometimes happens depending on where you have it in your effects signal chain (my sister has the same problem with her Pro Co Rat if we put it in the wrong place in her chain). Did you try it in other places in your effects chain first? I don't mean like pre wah or post modulation or something like that, but if you run several fuzz/distortion boxes, it's a good idea to switch those around in several combinations to figure out which would work best.

That is very true of fuzzes, but at the time I wasn't using any other pedals in my chain. Whether going into a clean or distorted amp, the tone was always quieter when I kicked in the TF. I am now using a Zvex Fuzz Factory and it has tons of boost available. I can set it to totally slam the front of my amp if I want to.

Lovepedal Balance... ge/si hybrid with great tone and versatility
Lovepedal Ezekiel... Sean only made about 10. glad I got one!
Lovepedal Karl... badass silicon fuzz that sounds germ.
Addrock Geranium... another truly badass germ. fuzz
Proanalog Scary Face... a lot of people like these, but I'm not sure if they are
still in production.

gain though.
Its too bad you can't sit down and check all these out at the same time. But, boutique gear is like that. All of these are good. A few are excellent. The Ezekiel I have is a true gem, and I can't imagine letting go of it. The Karl is killer. The Addrock is very high gain, and very crystalline, or you can goose the volume for a more round and midrange rich tone. You can't really go wrong with them. Keep in mind that the amp has A LOT to do with what you get. BF Fenders don't do too well with fuzz, but the Addrock has a switch that will help it out with that particular amp.

I'll agree with GJ and say that a Fulltone '69 is perfect. I absolutely love mine... the BEST for Hendrix fuzz. Actually, Fulltone also claims that many mods that were done to Hendrix's fuzz were done on the Fulltone '69, so there ye go.

www.buildyourownclone.com kits, either the tonebender or the Fuzz Face kits. Dead clones of the vintage pedals. And if you arent handy enough with a soldering iron or dont have the time to build, they sell prebuilt pedals as well.
