recommend a pedal tuner

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

any considerations for the Planet Waves tuner?

Yep. That's another option I'd recommend. Mine was a Christmas gift from the wife. If I didn't get that one the Boss was the other option. This one just happened to be about $20 less.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

Sold the TU2 quickly once I scored a Petersen Strobo-stomp. The last pedal tuner you'll eve buy.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

I've had the DT-10 for a long time, and it has served me well. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Strobostomp in the near future if gigging starts to pick up.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

I have a good friend who works for D'Addario and he was telling me that they have a new strobe tuner pedal in the works. From what he described it sounded pretty cool, but some refinements are being done.

I us a Matrix 2000 or 3000 tuner. I bought it for abot 40$ and it works good for a stage tuner. I would not use it for setups, for that I think a TU12 is a much better tuner.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

TU-2 works alright at gigs, but could be more accurate. Where are you going
to use it?

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

I've read enough about the Boss tuner, that if I ever buy another tuner, it will probably be the Boss.

But I currently have the Fender tuner. Why? It was a good price. And it seems to work well for me - no complaints. Well maybe one - last summer I played outside in the sun and I couldn't see anything on it. I had to prop up something to give me a little shade. Not sure if the Boss (or any tuner) would be better in those circumstances. Most pedals are designed for dark stages it seems.

I have the same problem. Most of my gigs are outdoors in the bright sunlight. I can barely see my TU-11 During pre tuning.:smack: Seems any pedal tuner would be useless until Dusk. Anyone know of a tuner that can be seen in the sunlight?

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

Now that I have a Strobostomp it would never cross my mind to go back to the TU2. That and the TC Electonics SCF are the two pedals on my board I will never consider selling.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

I'm getting a TU-2 myself soon.

Aside from the price and little learning curve, the strobostomp is butt ugly.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

The peterson is actually a VIRTUAL strobe tuner, not an actual strobe tuner. It is still super accurate, and hopefully the strobostomp II will over come the issues of the original strobostomp (screen falling off, jacks breaking, unit dying, etc). That said, I didnt like the interface and did not like to use it for live performance.

I've found the Planet Waves tuner to be awesome...accurate and very easy to see on stage. Also its cheaper than the boss unit...

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

also check out the Guyatone MT-3:

+/- 1 Cent, so it is 3x more accurate than the Boss and Planet Waves (both are +/- 3 cents)...
The Korg is a good choice too, but it is BIG...It is also +/- 1 cent.

For me, I tend to look at a few things with a tuner:
accuracy
how much space it takes
construction
if I can see it in Bright Light (almost all you can see in the dark)

For some, the Boss and Planet waves aren't accurate enough (they can hear the difference), but for some, it is just fine. I would like a Strobostomp, but its hard for me to pay that much for something that doesn't make any sound.

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

Here's another vote for the Boss. That's all I ever used and all I ever needed.

BTW - the Boss does have a strobe tuning mode...

Re: recommend a pedal tuner

No offense to you Boss guys...but the Planet Waves tuner blows it away in a couple of areas:

1.) It's WAYYYYYYY easier to read. The display is huge, bright, and colorful.

2.) It's True Bypass

All that for $20 cheaper. I have a Korg DT-10 and it works great, but if it ever dies on me, the first one I'm gonna get is the PW, hands down. I work with these things every day at the store I work at. The Boss might be "tried and true" but that doesn't mean it's better. For the money you can't be the Planet Waves. If you get one you won't be dissappointed.

While I agree with reason #1, reason #2 is totally a BS reason when it comes to a tuner. The Boss has a buffered bypass which is tried and true that does not suck tone. All of their pedals do. In fact, if someone has a pedalboard with a half dozen true bypass pedals, I'd recommend putting the Boss tuner at the end to let that buffer help push the signal along the rest of the way.

As to how true bypass the PL tuner is, I've yet to open mine up to trace that out. I plan on it though just to see how their bypass circuit is done up.
