Recommend bridge pickup

Hi

I have MIA that I would like to change the bridge pickup to have more output and to be noiseless.. I know a lot of people use HSS setups, but everytime I tried I had issues matching the humbucker with the single coil, because it was louder.. You had to put it far from the strings and I think it was not sounding his best! So I would like a pickup that would be good with the two Fender single coil..

What are you guys using? Are the single coil sized humbucker any good?

It would be helpful to know what kind of tone you're after, and what kind of amp and dirt pedals you use.

I like both the Stacks and the single coil-sized humbuckers. I go with Stacks if I want more power, silent coils and a more single coil sound. I go with the single coil-sized humbuckers if I want a more powerful, beefy sound that leaves the idea of being a single coil behind. What sound are you after? I think when you add something more powerful, there will be balance issues. You can't get that sound without some bump in volume. You have to decide how much is acceptable (it can be tamed with a compressor, too).

Get an Stk-S6, it sounds like barbecue sauce. I don't think barbecue sauce really has a sound, but if it did, it'd be the S6. It's got smokey highs, but is still able to maintain a nice beefy texture. If you eq it right, it makes a pretty decent pseudo telecaster bridge pickup.

I think there are many aspects of their music that are interesting. To criticize their music objectively against other popular music, the only thing the music lacks is melodically advanced guitar leads. Aside from that, the rest of the aspects of their music are way above average for a rock band. - Drums, bass, guitar tone, vox tone, songwriting, lyrics.

I am among the camp that doesn't care much for Nirvana, but if there is one thing they can do really good, it's acoustic versions of their own songs. Heck, I think they are probably the ones who started the whole acoustic covers trend.
But on a non-hijacking note, seriously consider the S6. It's also called the Custom Stack Plus. It's hot, but not enough to compromise it's twanginess, plus it's great for quack in the 4 position when paired with most other SD single coils (I prefer the Stk-S4 in the middle). And also, no hum.

Granite, or sandstone? Or was that a misprint...instead of rock band you meant rubber band?

And by "average" you mean 9-year-olds who have been playing less than three months? My son who was self-taught and played less than three months could play as good, and his singing was WAY better. Could just be that my son just had exceptional talent or that Nirvana sucks. In any case it is hard to come to the conclusion that there is much "talent" there.

Come on...get real. Certainly you don't truly believe what you said. You're just putting us on, right? Just trying to be controversial? Trying to get a rise out of us? A little "tongue-in-cheek"? Having fun? I can get that...I do that sometimes too. OK, you got me, I took the bait and fell for it/responded. But the jig's up. We all had a good laugh, but now it's time to get back to reality.

Your son is in the rock n roll hall of fame?! No way! What is his name?! Or are you "just putting us on"?

My taste for music is only an opinion yes so I'm not going to get my feelings hurt if people don't like Nirvana. There are objective reasons why they are legitimate in some ways and exceptional in others even if you don't care for that style of music, some of which I listed politely. But if you're going to say things like your prepubescent son sang "WAY better" at age 9 than one of the best rock singers ever, I am going to have to inform you that you are incorrect. A serious comment like that would usually only be made by someone with no knowledge of music what so ever. However I know that isn't the case. If you go back and read your emotion driven, purely opinion based rant on why Nirvana sucks, you might realize that you provided no objective reasons to back up your opinion. So in the spirit of "getting back to reality" I'll clue you in on some of the objective reasons why your statements are off base.

Starting with the band member with the least amount of influence: Listen to the studio version of Lithium. Did your 9 year old son write bass lines that act as counterpoint while still outlining the guitar chords, all while creating a memorable melody? Possible but I doubt it.

Listen to the bridge. Did your 9 year old son write drum parts that serve the melody and add to it and then perform them flawlessly with the proper intensity while playing to a click in a studio setting? Possible, but I doubt it.

I'd understand if you'd said "I don't like bands that only use bar chords" but Kurt wrote with power chords, triads, 7th chords, and altered chords so an attempt to trivialize them there would still be wrong. I'd understand if you'd said "I only like virtuoso soloists" but Kurt was capable of soloing with rhythmic complexity while using blues/pentatonic, chords, and chromaticism against a tonal center so an attempt to trivialize them there would also be wrong. Obviously these points don't make them the best band ever, most good bands do these things. But the notion that "they suck" is objectively incorrect. "I don't like them" would have done just fine.

Nirvana is in the RNRHOF because a) Cobain is dead and b) Foo Fighters aren't eligible until 2020.

Well yeah there are certainly countless musicians with more talent than some of the rock n roll hall of fame members. But you don't get in there without having talent. And certainly noone in there "sucks" even if we might not like them.

Well, I suppose marketing talent is still talent.
I suppose I judge musical talent in this way: if one can play the music of another, but the other can not play one's music, then one is more talented than the other. For example, Rush and Nirvana, to use two Hall of Famers. I'm willing to bet that Rush could play anything Nirvana ever played. Not so sure of the opposite.

That's a really good example. Rush is obviously more technical than Nirvana so they could probably play Nirvana's songs without Nirvana being able to play Rush's songs note for note. Although I think Nirvana would do fine playing Rush with their 2nd guitarist. However there's no way Geddy Lee could pull off Cobain's heavy singing. That would sound horrible! But I'm sure Kurt could sing Geddy Lee songs easily and sound good. Kurt's singing on covers sounds awesome like on Best Friend's Girl.
