Learning software is a pain. If you have aspirations of being a pro engineer you will need to know Pro Tools, it is still the most widely used by pros.

I have aspirations of doing a professional job with my music projects + the ones I decide to do for friends. I really enjoy the recording process if its in the right environment....friends getting together, music I like, people being professional + prepared, ect. No one I will be recording with will care what program I use.

While this may be true, and there are PLENTY of examples of very successful guys who don't run PT, in order to freely work in other studios or trade projects with the majority of producers/engineers, you'll need to know PT.
