Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

I know this is the sd forum I love pickups from the big 3

My guitar has the air Norton neck. ( I like) gonna keep

And a tone zone bridge ( DONT LIKE too muddy and bassy)

I love the Duncan jb.
The dimarzio distortion I also like
The super 3 I have in another guitar and I find it a bit too powerful.
Emgs same thing problem as super 3
I also had the gravity storms the bridge sounded great but was slightly les out put then I wanted

I want something high output but still warm I'm kinda going for like a warren di martini tone. ( I know he used the jb)
I may like for it to be able to still sound good if I decide to de tune and play say slipknot.
I already have a guitar with emgs for this but you never know.
I also already have a jb guitar. So basically I'm looking in between these sort of?

Evo 2
Titan
Norton( this seems to sound great and similar to the jb)

At1 ( can't find a demo not playing some old strat music)

Anything else? Has to be dimarzio as I don't want it looking wierd with 2 brands in it.

I don't know how the AT1 will handle detuned styles... What kind of guitar is this going into? Maybe a Dominion or Breed could do the trick.

I use an AT-1, and it sounds close to a JB enough while being sufficiently different. It's like a lower-output, more dynamic JB with more low mids.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

I remember a while back, a member posted a comparison clip between a Tone Zone and JB, and they actually sounded pretty similar, but with different characters. So if you didn't like the Tone Zone, I wouldn't suggest a JB right away.

I like the DiMarzio Bluesbucker for something medium-output, but that pickup is probably too different from your tastes. I'd try the Norton first. I'm assuming you want each guitar to sound different?

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

I have an AT-1 in an HSH mahogany strat, its like a refined JB, or maybe a JB with 250k pots, I have another HSH Mahogany strat and it has Dimarzio virtual hot PAF bridge and virtual paf neck and it seems louder and punchier than the AT-1 which is higher output.

I've played a JB with 250k pots, and an AT-1. Not really the same, IMO. The AT-1 is more dynamic, more refined, and slightly less aggressive. It also sounds more modern.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

Try your super 3 with a TBX tone control, my stock 91 MIJ came that way and I hate it on middle pos but with the tbx cranked it sounds very clear.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

Back the Tone Zone off the strings a bit, raise the poles up on it a bit, and disconnect it from the tone pot. That should get rid of the muddy/bassy problem.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

I've yet to find a DiMarzio I liked in the bridge position. I love the Liquifire in the neck–one of my favorite pickups. I loved it in Alder and think it pairs extremely well with a Screamin Demon in Basswood.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

I have a Steve Special paired with the Air Norton... one of my fav combinations.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

I am getting ready to pull the Dimarzios from my RG Prestige, a TZ and an Air Norton and go with a Whole Lotta in the neck and a Perpetual Burn in the bridge..

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

Considering how much down tuning JP does, I'd suggest the Illuminator if you refuse to have two different brands in one guitar. If you can get over that, then the Duncan Distortion is your friend. It sounds great in warm guitars.

Re: Recommend me a dimarzio pickup

Norton is not similar to a JB. It can be very bright and harsh in a different way. JB can be bright in the upper mids; Norton can be bright in the treble (REAL bright). I wouldn't recommend higher than a 400k load or it gets pretty obnoxious. With a 400k or lower load it can sound great.

If you like a JB, try an AT-1. It's a JB without the JB's finicky nature.

Yeah. What he said. The AT-1 is a fuller JB without the obnoxiousness.

The thing I don't like is every demo of the at1 is in a fender ( I hate fenders terribly) and no one is playing my styles of music with them 80s hard rock to 2000s metal. My ibanez is basswood with a hard tail trem it's not too bright of a guitar. I had a rg470 Japan that was a lot brighter for some reason and the tz sounded good in that one.

There's a guy playing The Loner with it.

I'd play an 80s song with it for you, but I don't have good recording equipment.
