^^ Yep, this is how I feel about my 59/C - has a bit more of that 3D grit than a matched coil pu. Of course, this is most noticeable on clean to mildly distorted tones. High gain is the great equalizer when it comes to these things.
It's a very versatile pu. Nice clean tone (and I typically hate the clean tone of bridge buckers!), sensitive to where you pick.
Custom coil (about 7k) recommended for split - strong enough in the bridge to provide a robust single coil tone which matches well with any other single coils a guitar may have, as in a HSS or HSH setup.
