Recommend me a good medium output humbucker!

Re: Recommend me a good medium output humbucker!

On the medium side of low-medium, DiMarzio really owns that territory.

I guess the 59/Custom is the Duncan solution. Never played one (or even heard one. But it philosophically makes a lot of sense.

Re: Recommend me a good medium output humbucker!

With two even coils, the hum cancellation is perfect but both coils will have the same resonances and 'deficiencies' in output. The tone can be quite nice, but compared with mismatched coils it tends to be described as one-dimensional. The earliest mismatched coils were accidental, which were the original PAF pickups. They were quite literally all over the place with readings.....some are magic and others not so according to those who have played many. The differing coil tones add some of the raw complexity you get with single-coils. If you've ever played a nice p90 or a quality strat/tele pickup you'll know what I'm talking about....they ring more.

^^ Yep, this is how I feel about my 59/C - has a bit more of that 3D grit than a matched coil pu. Of course, this is most noticeable on clean to mildly distorted tones. High gain is the great equalizer when it comes to these things.

It's a very versatile pu. Nice clean tone (and I typically hate the clean tone of bridge buckers!), sensitive to where you pick.

Custom coil (about 7k) recommended for split - strong enough in the bridge to provide a robust single coil tone which matches well with any other single coils a guitar may have, as in a HSS or HSH setup.

i'm actually selling a custom right now. it currently has a UOA5 magnet, but i'll throw in an A5 and an A4 so you can dial it in the way you want.

The C/59 is a great sounding pup with openness and clarity and a little complexity to the tone from the mismatched coils. But it is a bit bright sounding as well. If that's what you want then the C/59 is a great choice.

When I was reading your post and the qualities that you were looking for, the only pup that was hitting my brain was the Demon. It perfectly meets all of your requirements. Then I read how you were thinking about the Demon and I thought that you've already got it figured out...why are you even posting. Then when you said that you were also considering the C/59 I thought...yeah, that would also be a pretty good choice.

But I think, all-in-all the Demon is the perfect pup for what you want and the C/59 is a reasonable second choice.
