Mark Of The Unicorn Ultralite MkIII. Current versions have both USB and FireWire sockets.

I have a Motu 828 mk II, but I also have a Mac to connect it to. I've heard several reports that MOTU's Windows drivers aren't nearly as good as their OS X ones which may be something to consider. Overall I like the interface quite a lot, even if the built-in preamps aren't exactly stellar.

Anyone use one of the Rolands (like a duo capture ex)? They seem to get good reviews.

True. Bugged me enough that I sold mine. I was able to do reamping with it, which worked ok, but I had to use another interface initially to capture the clean guitar without clipping.

may i ask what recording interface you use now. and how does it compared to scarlet 2i2.

Mix control is an essential part of using Focusrite interfaces!

may i ask what recording interface you use now. and how does it compared to scarlet 2i2.

A tascam us-144 mkII. I found it compatible to the scarlet in terms of sound quality but the scarlet has nice line outputs (and the tascam can be set so it doesn't clip if plugged straight in). I also like the tascam's monitor mix knob. I'm sure it's probably dated by now, but I'm getting ready to do another tune with it. Might upgrade after that one.

The mix knob is the only thing I REALLY miss about my old Tacscam interface. It's brilliant !!!
... Focusrite does have better sounding preamps and better ADC, though, in my opinion/experience.

I still need to research this, but this appears to be the updated tascam US series (us-322) for $99, and tascam has a $50 rebate on top of that. For $50, I may give it a go, especially since it has the better line level outs for reamping. Us-366 only $50 more too, not bad.

Not the cheapest guy around but considering bombproof drivers and sound quality it is really hard to beat RME interfaces:

Superb mic pres, state of art converters, stable drivers. Higher price... But if you make that step, considering quality you will be just one small step behind stellar priced ProTools HD interfaces.

If RME stuff is out of budget, take a look at Focusrite interfaces. They are several steps behind RME but come with really nice preamps, friendly prices and stable drivers. I still have my old 26i/o. With good montirors a stable DAW and some outboard gear you can mix commercial albums with that:

Guitar is a MIM Fender '72 Tele Thinline Reissue.
Bridge Pickup.
Whirlwind cable.
Input 1 on the 212.
Clip is the instrument input on lowest volume, 9:00, 12:00, 3:00, then 11:00 to show how much gain is added when you get past the 1/3 mark on the 212.

On the lowest setting, my direct guitar was averaging -12dBU ... PLENTLY loud for 24 bit recording. At 9:00, the DI was averaging about -8dBU ... that is actually way louder than it needs to be for 24 bit.

By backing the volume just a smudge from 12:00, I had no problem cleaning up the tone.

I like my Focusrite 2i2 but I still have to use my Art Tube MP Mic preamp at times for low volume recording or using a condenser mic. It is a bit noisy (the tube preamp) but it helps. The gain control of the Focusrite needs your fine finger adjustment. The focusrite also has an occasional issue with my 4-5 year old Mac Mini. I often have to restart everything to get rid of connectivity and noise problems.
