Recommend me a small multi-channel tube amp head

Re: Recommend me a small multi-channel tube amp head

Buy a dolly, then you only have to lift it in and out of the car! I paid $50 for a nice dolly a few years ago, and it's saved my back a TON of strain over the years.

That's a good idea, although that'll be one more thing to schlep on the road. I kind of just want to be carrying head in one hand and cab in the other, and if anything happens to either, there's more flexibility to swap in a replacement quickly.

I also, went with the GM over the V3m.
1. I already have the big brother V3. Which is midi. Making it more versatile than the V3m.
2. GM has built in effects.
3. GM power soak is more versatile than either V3 or V3m. It'll go 1w, 5w, 8w, 36w or off(dummy load for direct recording without a speaker hooked up).
4. DI redbox is better than the V3 DI.
5. Built in noise gate.

I found mine of Craigs list used for $900 with case, controller and cords.
Just be patient. Especially, with the College kids getting ready for the new fall semester. They tend to sell off gear to pay for those semesters.

I just got GAS for, like, your entire jam room. Good point about fall timing. Although if college kids are selling Grandmeisters.... they've got some rich parents :D

I can't argue with your last point; however, a combo and a collapsible dolly is two things to pack and a head and cab is also two things to pack.

Plus, you can put more than just the amp on it. My load ins are typically very swift, despite the amount of gear I have to pack around. I grab the dolly, stack my amp, my pedal case, and my gear case, grab a guitar case with one hand and wheel the dolly in. One trip out to grab stack up my monitor, my 2nd amp, and my pedal steel case and grab my 2nd guitar, stack a few stands on top of the pile, wheel it in and I'm done. Without the dolly that's at least 5 trips and probably close to 250 lbs of crap lugged across a parking lot. My band mates will typically also use it to bring their stuff in.

I guess my point is, even if you go head/cab, consider getting a dolly anyway!

I'm not familiar with Jet City stuff, though I've seen plenty of folks talk about it online. I almost never see the amps in shops around here, so I just haven't had a chance to play them.

The first comment on the Musician's Friend page has me concerned. Is that amp really that noisy?

Also, could it nail a Marshall voicing so dead-on that it could replace a DSL?
Jet City stopped being sold in B&M stores a couple years ago and for now are exclusive to Musician's Friend.

The Custom 22 (as opposed to the JCA20H and JCA22H) is a reworking of the circuit by Martin Kidd (Victory Amps) and is much more Marshally in flavor.

Believe it or not, The Gear Page (famous for their haunting mids and crystal lettuce) actually seems to like the amp overall, and it's not an overpriced Dumble.

All good stuff to know - thank you! I had to look up the haunting mids and crystal lettuce bit, heh.

LOL Yeah, TGP can get a bit ridiculous.

For instance, their answer to your question may have been to get a Friedman Pink Taco or whatever the 20-40 watt Bogner is. Something that costs a ton of money.

Anyone tried a Frenzel amp? Supposed to be a Fender-ish channel & a Marshall-y channel. You can order bout any ohm, direct out, built in attenuator type options. I've looked, I've read, no chance to listen yet, other than clips. I can't judge til I have one in hand.

Laney Lionheart? I think they're sold in head format as well as combo.
You might find it a bit too large, though.

Egnater Tweaker 40? If it's anywhere near my 15 in the sonic realm, you're in for a serious threat man.
