Okay...I'm looking for a TUBE AMP with nice gain quality (classic rock / metal) that I don't have to crack up to full blast! I'm looking for this amp for my home so thats why I don't want something that will need to be too loud to get good gain quality.

Thanks!

Matt

Re: Recommend me a Tube Amp!

i just got a Mesa Rectoverb combo off ebay that i love. its very veratile, can do great cleans to classic rock to metal. at 50watts all tube it can get very very loud, but even when im not playing with my band, i use it in my bedroom, and it sounds decent at lower volumes. what price range are you looking at?

Re: Recommend me a Tube Amp!

you'll want to stick to the 15 watt and under amps - plenty of them around - the Dr. Z mini is awesome, bad cat mini cat, reverend goblin, carvin makes a 15/5 watt switchable amp that sounds pretty good, peavey classic 20, thd univalve (my favorite low powered amp - with a tad adapter and a single EL84 this thing screams at very low volumes). Really anything over 15 watts is going to depend on preamp gain or a pedal to get any crunch going at low levels.

Re: Recommend me a Tube Amp!

Cornford harlequin or hurricane for something really special or for something a little cheaper nothing beats a laney LC15R, when you see that the price is in the range of many SS amps yet its a full Valve/Tube amp and has a very good reputation.

Marshall DSL 20, and Ashdown also make a 20 watter. Cheap, but sound killer

+1 to the Mesa Rectoverb. I love mine to death.

Can't complain about my Ashdown Peacemaker 40 (they do it in a 20 too) for the money.

Cornford Harliquins are out of this world though, they are an unbeleivable 6w amp

Re: Recommend me a Tube Amp!

I'd avoid the lower wattage DSL combos. not impressed by mine. Laney make some great low wattage stuff for not much dosh.

Re: Recommend me a Tube Amp!
