My Carlsbro has Partridge trafo's, like Hiwatts, got a nice channel that has a variable mid shaper, plus a limiter.
It just needs a restauration by now.

You have passed the test. You are ready for a tube PA. Go to ebay, do a search for "tube PA," and discount the references to Pennsylvania. Find one that you can have modded (basically with 1/4" ins and outs) or that is already modded that runs on EL34s. Plug in. Rock. Smile.

Your main hangups will be: 1) you'll have no idea how it will sound (that's part of the fun actually), and 2) most are between 10-40 watts (that's a good thing to me).

Careful....they're addictive. You'll have like 5 in no time.

I think he'd take $600 for it, but I don't have any clips. He's probably got some I could get, he's done a lot of recording over the last couple years but his band plays pretty extreme metal stuff, and he used to run a Keeley modded Boss Metal Zone in front and so his clips aren't truly representative of the amp. It's a 100 watt, 3 channel monster really.

yeah i hate the sound of metalzones, any way to get clips of it without the pedal?

i really don't care about clean tones so light, medium, and stoneresque gain clips would be cool

did traynor make a 100 watt head? I'm not really interested in combos & that seems to be mostly what i see from them

The older Traynor heads were pretty powerful and show up for cheap now and again on ebay.

YBA-1a Mk II (Head) - 100 watts, powered by EL-34s
YBA-3 Custom Special (Head) - 160 watts, powered by EL-34s
YGL-3a Mark III (Head)- 100 watts, powered by EL-34s
YBX-1a (head) - 100 watts, powered by EL-34s

Traynor Bassmasters only used 2 EL34's but the later ones, which the SS rectifier were close to 90 watts, you could also look into a Sound City 120 those used 6 EL34's

My MusicMan 212HD 130 runs on 4xel34 tubes. It uses a 12ax7 tube as a phase inverter. It can get a pretty good crunch with some fiddleing, especially on the low power setting. The intent on the amp, from what I remember when I bought it (back in 1978) was to get somewhere between a Fender Twin Reverb and a Marshall. Closer to a Twin but with an attitude, if that makes sense.
I though I was one of the few that still had one, but after a trip to Austin last week, I saw a couple of them in the various music stores, so they are still around.
Listen to Johnny Winter. It seems he still plays one and form what I heard, Kim Thayll used one in the early Soundgarden recordings. I could be wrong on that on though, might just be "rumor control".
But it is a very loud amp, so be aware of that.

Check those Sound City 120 watters out. Should be loud enough for ya. Might need a bit of a kick in the nads to get it breaking up nicely though.

Yeah, they can be finicky. I usually change my playing to match whatever the amp can do best. But that's not what most players want to do, which is understandable.

yea those sound city 120s are loud as hell, but i think the 90 watt Traynor bassmaster sound better. They are still plenty massive sounding, especially considering they were meant for a bass, so with a guitar, they have a little extra kick and headroom.
