My MusicMan 212HD 130 runs on 4xel34 tubes. It uses a 12ax7 tube as a phase inverter. It can get a pretty good crunch with some fiddleing, especially on the low power setting. The intent on the amp, from what I remember when I bought it (back in 1978) was to get somewhere between a Fender Twin Reverb and a Marshall. Closer to a Twin but with an attitude, if that makes sense.
I though I was one of the few that still had one, but after a trip to Austin last week, I saw a couple of them in the various music stores, so they are still around.
Listen to Johnny Winter. It seems he still plays one and form what I heard, Kim Thayll used one in the early Soundgarden recordings. I could be wrong on that on though, might just be "rumor control".
But it is a very loud amp, so be aware of that.
