Recommend me an overdrive pedal

Re: Recommend me an overdrive pedal

get a tech21 sansamp. you can use it for boost, dial in a little breakup distortion. you can also use it to enhance the tone of just about any other tone you want.

The Sansamp stuff is really good. It's well made and has great cabinet emulation, on top of the analog modeling.

Re: Recommend me an overdrive pedal

OK! First of all, sorry to everyone who has replied so far. I didn't have my forum settings turned on to notify me when new posts were made. I'm not often at a computer these days so apologies for the lateness of my response!

Previous to now I never really used pedals or any effects really. In my last band I used a Dean Markley Overlord which I quite liked but that gave up the ghost and I never bothered replacing it as for most of the stuff I play in my current band the tones from the amp are almost enough.

In the end I opted for the Joyo Sweetbaby. It doesn't give much in the way of distortion at all but it does have a very nice sound to it and the focus control is very useful in shaping the tone.

I wanted to get that John Fogerty bubbly bassentric OD tone and this seems to do it very well. It's also very useful as a boost pedal too if you set it up that way.

Thanks for all your replies, I really do appreciate it, and sorry it took so long to respond once again.

Re: Recommend me an overdrive pedal

Maybe something like this? I love mine... Real tube gain, switchable between two channels. "Amplifier Helper."

Yes, I also love the versatility of the SD Twin Tube.
Probably any type of Tube Screamer or a pedal with the name "Blues" in it.
TS-9 (or one of it's variants).....probably the most commonly used OD pedals, and for good reason. Give a great range of OD tones.

I have others besides the two mentioned above, but these are definitely my favorites. If you would want a clean volume boost only w/ no coloration other than driving the amp a little harder, try the MXR m-133.

Re: Recommend me an overdrive pedal

From what you described you need a tube screamer. There are tons out there. I use the mxr classic OD, which is basically a ts9/sd1 type OD. It can be had for around 30 bucks. A ts9 is great, subtle and not too much gain.

Re: Recommend me an overdrive pedal

+1 on Paul Cochrane's Tim or Timmy. Sounds like your guitar and amp with a little grit, or a clean boost if you want. Highly recommended.

Danelectros Transparent Overdrive is a cheap copy.

Analogman's King of Tone is a good one.

Barber LTD has a bit of a mid boost, but nothing as marked as a Tube Screamer.
The LTD SR is more neutral sounding.

Re: Recommend me an overdrive pedal

Fulltone OCD.

Got rid of my heavily modded TS9 soon after the OCD showed-up. More dynamic and responsive. More clarity and articulation. The TS9 sounded like it had a blanket over it by comparison.

My other OD is a Carl Martin Plexitone. Awesome pedal for taking a clean, Fenderish type of amp into Marshall Plexi-JCM00-beyond territory.
