Recommend some EL-34's please...

I'm looking to replace my current output tubes soon (G.T.'s), and I was wondering what you guys thought. The tubes are for a JCM800 2204. I'm happy with the EL-34's, so I see no reason to use another type, i.e.-6550,etc. So, if you could share your thoughts/experiences, I'd appreciate it. I'll consider both new production, and NOS tubes, as well.

I got a set of JJs E34Ls, a variation on the EL34, its a lot louder with more headroom, though for low volume playing I put the Svetlanas back in, they break up alot better, sooner.

For crunch, my favorite EL34s are the EH ones (I've A/B'ed 'em with JJ, GT, and Sovtek).

Since I'm currently trying to optimize my cleans, I use 6CA7s--I use the EH ones though the new GT version is supposed to be da bomb.

Re: Recommend some EL-34's please...

I prefer JJ/Teslas. They seem to get sweeter lows, clearer mids and more top-end sizzle than any other tubes I've tried.

Re: Recommend some EL-34's please...

I find Svetlanas to be more warm and compressed and JJ's to be more bold and glassy.
Don't go cheap on pre tubes. If you want nice gain out of the 2204, try out the GT 12AX7C or M. You'll notice more difference there. You wouldn't be disapointed by any JJ or Svets in a 50W Marshall.
