recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

I'm looking for some integral pedals to add to my rig. I'd like a good distortion pedal. I haven't tried any out yet, but I was thinking along the lines of something like a Boss DS-1, or Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer, maybe having them keeley modded down the road. I also want a quality delay pedal, and a good reverb pedal. Recommendations appreciated.

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

distortion:modded ds-1 from keeley, some people from here also mode them
reverb: the boss reverb pedal is awesom
Delay: i've heard good things from boss and line 6 about there pedals

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

Reverb: Electro Harmonix Holy Grail
Distortion: Spina Modded DS-1
Delay: Boss DD-whatever

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

reverb - holy grail
delay - dd3 or 6
distortion, eh, sd-1, ts-9, or ds-1 would prolly do the job

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what exactly does a "delay" pedal do???

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

A delay pedal takes the incoming signal and repeats it at a rate, number of times, and volume you specify with its controls. Some pedals also allow for reverse delay, which takes the notes you play and makes them sound... well backwards haha. Instead of picking a note and having it fade out, it will fade in and abruptly stop, very trippy. I'd recommend either a Boss DD-6 or the Line 6 Echo Park.

For distortion, I love the Keeley Ultra modded Boss DS-1 I got recently (thanks B2D :)). If you're considering the DS-1, get the Ultra mod as it also has the Seeing Eye Mod built in, you flip a toggle switch to choose between them.

I can't help on reverb, I use my amp's reverb.

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

yeah my choices were pretty much a keeley modded DS-1 or Tubescreamer. I wanted a distortion that could get smooth and round and hot and nasty if I wanted it to. Kind of like a chick.

I was also looking at the boss digital delay vs. the new line 6 echo park pedal.

for reverb I have yet to try the holy grail but I hear good things. The boss reverb is good?

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

not as good as the grail

you may wanna take a look at the sd-1, it's like a hopped up tubescreamer, not as mean as a ds-1, but definately meaner than a ts-9. Of course all 3 can be smoothed out pretty well

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

Reverb - holy grail
Delay - Digitech DigiDelay
Distortion - Boss OD-3 Overdrive :smack:

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

my fav delay out there is the Line6 DL4..it is worth it for the looping alone, but the delays sound fantastic.

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

Distortion: M I Audio Blue Boy Overdrive

I don't consider the TS to be a distortion pedal. It's a clean boost that will drive your amp into distortion if that's what you want it to do. That's different from using a distortion pedal. A Keeley-modded TS is a nice thing to have. I'm not a distortion pedal guy, so I'm afraid I can't recommend anything.
I like analog delays. I have an old Ibanez Delay Champ. Very nice. To my ears, the delay is less brittle, or clean-sounding than digital. You don't see them much anymore.
The Holy Grail is probably the best reverb pedal available. It doesn't compare to a Fender stand-alone unit, but what does? There are two models of the Holy Grail. I have the less-expensive of the two. It's nice enough, good for sweetening a non-reverb amp. But you really have little control outside of dialing in the amount of reverb. If I want a really wet verb, I start losing the dry signal after 12 o'clock, and it gets washed-out. You have no ability to mix wet/dry signals. The pricier model has more functions, and more reverbs.

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

Get yourself a TS-9 or a DS-1 or an SD-1 from Stratdeluxer.

Re: recommend some pedals to me, looking for distortion, delay, reverb

Reverb: Little Lanilei Reverb Pedal
Distortion: John Spina DS-1 (I like what he does better than Keeley) and/or Line 6 DM-4
Delay: Line 6 DL-4
