Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

http://www.dimarzio.com/straps/cliplock/2-inch-nylon-cliplock

the best straplock system there is. you can also simply buy more clips and use one strap on all your guitars and just clip in and out.

was going to suggest this.. most awesome strap lock system IMO

ive used the dunlop and schaller systems but i like the dimarzio clip lock strap set up the best.. just feels right to me

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

Got in a dozen non-locking straps this week and now have one on almost all my electrics (still got a couple to hunt down and dig out).

I intend to leave the straps on the guitar once it goes on, to reduce the wear on the leather ends, so hopefully they'll resist slipping off for a few years without needing assistance.

But then I got to thinking: you know those little shoestrings that come with straps? Suppose you drilled a couple of holes in the leather end near the pin hole, threaded the strings through, then tied them snug to keep the hole from expanding and slipping off.

Hey, it works for shoes!

And they're long enough you can cut them in half and have one for each end of the strap. Punch enough holes and you could probably do a crossing pattern for maximum snugness.

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

Well, far be it from me to wait for someone else to try one of my silly ideas, so I punched 4 holes in the end of an old ragged leather strap and wove the shoestring through it, and BAM! Works like a champ so far. It keeps the pin hole snug, and should help keep it from slipping over the end.

But I still make sure it's flipped the right way, just in case.

Our patented, snap-action locks feature space age,

So, 1960s tech? I think we're in the Digital Age now, right?

Still, looks like a nice idea.

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

I know it's an older thread, but, I use Schaller. They seem to be really great quality (made in Germany and they don't make bad things in Germany). I always put the longer screws in the guitar even if the shorts are in it.

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

+1 on he DiMarzio Cliplock, been using them for 5 years on all my electric guitars and never had an issue at gigs. The ends literally are screwed into the guitar so it won't be coming off unless you have a loose screw in the wood. Takes 60 seconds to install.

Easily switchable too from guitar to guitar, and comfortable - I refuse to use anything else!

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

So far I've counted the recommendations and this is what this thread has resulted in.

• Schaller locks has 9 votes
• Dunlop locks has 6 votes
• Dimarzio 2 Inch Nylon ClipLock has 5
• D’Addario has 1 vote
• Lock-it strap has 1 vote

If I have miscounted or someone would like a recount I'd be glad to. I'll certainly keep this in consideration because I'll be doing more research on other websites too. Thanks for the help.

Wait... we're talking about strap locks... Why do you need to poll multiple websites to decide? You should have bought a set 3 weeks ago and been done with it. At the end of the day all the systems work.

Re: Recommendations for Strap Locks or Locking Guitar Strap

I have Schallers (or Schaller rip-offs in some cases, which are fine as well) on all but one of my guitars. The last one has Dunlops. They all work fine, I just get whatever they have in stock in the right color at the store when I need them. I might prefer the Dunlops for two not very important reasons. One: The strap buttons are larger, and work fine with any strap, equal to the stock ones, where the Schallers are tiny. Two: The nuts that attach the lock to the strap on the Schallers tend to get loose from time to time, while the retainer clips on the Dunlops don't seem to have the same issue. No big deal, but enough to make me prefer Dunlops by a small margin.

But which system gives the creamiest, most complex, organic and dynamic tone?

It's not always about jumping around the stage like an epilep. I've leaned over to tweak a knob on a pedal and had the guitar lean forward enough to slip off the pin.

And actually the solution just hit me right in the face. I need some manufacturing equipment because I'm gonna be rich by selling strap pins for $1 a set, and it's the last set of pins you'll need. No more Cliplocks, no more Schallers, Dunlops, or those Fender washers. It's so incredibly simple that I'm actually about to throw up.
