Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

I'm looking for a fixed tone wah pedal (not just an auto-wah) as a tone shaper. I don't want one with the usual foot treadle, but it must have true-bypass. Can anyone recommend something out there?

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

Off hand there is the Dunlop Q-Zone I think it's called, although I think there are a few boutique versions as well. The manufacturers escape me though.

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

I use a Dr.Q Envelope Filter. Not true bypass but I am sure there must be a mod out there for it.

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

A parametric equalizer would work, but so would a graphic equalizer.

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

the BYOC envelop filter has a fixed wah feature on it. ive built a few of those pedals for some peoples and they really do sound awesome.

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

The BYOC looks a fun little project to try and the catalinbread pedal looks great, but I can't ever recall seeing them advertised in the UK. Perhaps a trip to my favourite shop when I'm back home for Christmas may be in order.

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

I always liked Morley and Dunlop Crybaby wahs. If you don't want to "hunt" for the sweet spot, you might think about a parametric EQ.

Not really... at best an EQ would only approximate the wah does since it's bandpass filter.

I'm going to build my own fixed wah. I bought the guts of a Dunlop and just need a box to stick 'em in. I want to try the Dunlop Q-zone though to see what it's all about... it's got three knobs instead of one. That must be better right?!

Re: Recommendations of a fixed wah pedal?

You could always use a normal wah pedal that has the sound you like and true bypass and just disengage the geared bit so the pedal just works to turn the pedal on/off and you adjust the pot by hand inside the pedal.

Probably a bit silly but everyone already threw out the obvious suggestions so its all I had left lol

what about the 12, 15, or 18 dB of active boost for each frequency and overall

The EQ units I've been using are more than band-pass filters.

Other recommendations for auto wahs and envelope filters are fine also, since many have features allowing you to minimize the "sweep" and adjust the range to your sweet spot.

At best an EQ will only approximate what a wah does because the way the filters work are completely different. Not to get overly technical a wah uses a bandpass filter which lets one frequency through while cutting the rest. While an EQ, even parametric, changes the level of one frequency while leaving the others more or less alone.

Some EQ's do work on a bandpass design & others are inductor based... but really... no need to get super technical about it. The principles are similar but application & execution are vastly different.
