Any of you guys have a recommendation for windows software for doing simple recording (i don't really need effects other than maybe to clean up the signal)? I only need to record to WAV in a good way, I can encode through Linux. Ideas?

Re: Recommended software

You can get some free recording programs that will just go straight to WAV or MP3, I'm not sure the exact name, but there's a thread on free software like 2x a month around here. The search function seems to be never used.

If you're looking for something more complicated, though, like mixing, effects, midi editing, etc, A good place to start would be something like Cubase LE.

Re: Recommended software

I like Audacity for its simplicity, and it's free. I've since switched to Cubase, but Audacity is super easy to use, and you can download free VST effects to use (they're out there, you just gotta look). On my computer, it got a little choppy once I got up to having like 10 tracks going at once, but that's kind of a lot of tracks and it was probably hampered by my computer's memory not the program.
