Now that my homemade is needing some upgrades, I decided I would also change the pickup configuration as well. It's been a dual humbucker guitar for years and I just got a dual humbucker pickguard for it earlier this year but my LP serves the dual HB area perfectly so this one is going to go 1 hum(b) - 1 single(n), with a new pickguard too.

The guitar is an alder body, maple neck and fingerboard, natural finish. Pickguard is going to be Vintage Pearl (see Warmoth.com) like it has now. Black pickups, black knob(s). Don't know if I'm going to go with 1 push/pull volume with no tone or 1 volume, 1 tone and 3-way switch, but probably 1 push/pull volume.

I know I'm going APS-1 for the single, no question.

Since I value the wealth of pickup knowledge and diversity here, my question for you is on the humbucker. I could always go to my tried and true and get another CC but I want something in the Vintage line, either a 59 or A2Pro.

So, let's have at it. Vote for your choice. First voter gets to choose my vote. This poll will end after 7 days.

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

maple neck and a 59 may be too bright Erik...at least IMO..unless ya went with a 300/250K pot...

APII I find too sweet.. in a Paula (for the bridge anyway)...I think it would be too "weak" sounding (not in output,...but tone)

I'd say EVH....or 59 with a lower value pot...

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

You can vote 59 too :D I really don't think an AP will sound very good in that axe..not enough balls...

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

Thanks, Jeff. My vote is in for the 59.

Looking at the tone wizard, I went through all the options for a Hum-Sing-Sing (closest to what I'm doing) and these two bridge options are suggested for Blues Country. Go figure.

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

if you are using 250k pots, a 59b will sound nice.

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

I actually did consider the PG but I'm concerned that there would be too much upper sizzle.

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

For TheOdie's sake, I'm going to suggest a JB.

As for my real suggestion, my gut tells me the 59, but I've never heard it in a strat. I bet you could get it sounding just fine, though.

It's funny you mention the JB because that is what I just pulled out of this guitar...

F.U.!!!!!LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the APH but, it may have spacing issues in a strat unless you may be able to get one floor custom in a trembucker??????

Re: Reconfig on homemade strat

I voted 59, but I really think you'd be much happier with a Dimarzio Breed. Or a MegaDrive. <-- my new favourite pup... this week :)

Just my 2 cents.
