Recording noob Question(s)

I'm trying to build a cheap but functional desktop recording setup.

The first thing on my list is a decent USB interface.

More specifically, this one:

Now as I said, I am pretty new to recording through one of these. I'm most concerned with latency. What determines the amount of latency? Will I experience any with this going line out from my amp? Any general tips for building a budget recording setup?

Feel free to talk to me as if I were a small child on the matter.

Thanks. :)

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

It says "Zero-latency direct monitoring." So you're good when monitoring your playing through the headphone jack probably your monitors as well. If you can step up to around $100.00 + you'll have some better options for an interface.

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

I saw that.

So that means I'll get zero latency through headphones or monitors connected directly...

But will I get any latency through my computer speakers? I plan on getting some monitors or headphones eventually but I have to make due with what I can afford atm.

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

noob to noob...I use headphones - rather than speakers - with a lexicon alpha I got a few months back to get a start in recording my guitar and haven´t had any latency issues whether plugged directly into the device or into my laptop. I find it simpler to plug them directly into the device to monitor though.

Thanks but I'm good on all of that.

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

Many of the things have lousy analog parts.

I generally try to solve this by buying brands I trust. When it comes to USB sound interfaces I use Tascam's US-xxx units.

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

Yes, Lexicon Alpha probably have zero latency, you should use the correct driver thought.

Reaper: HERE
Lecto: HERE
LeCab: HERE
Impulses: HERE

That's all you need. If you have any question I'm here to help.

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

Awesome, thank you. :)

I run Adobe Audition and I'm pretty sure it supports ASIO. I'll check when I get all of this stuff setup.

Re: Recording noob Question(s)

Audition is a little bit difficult to use (at least for me).

I run Reaper for ~970 days, as it says, and I just wait like 5 seconds to open.
You don't really need to buy it after it expires.

LOL, typical, wanting something for nothing. if you don't think reaper is worth $60 then don't use it. for reaper to stay around and remian current pay the cheap ass fee they charge. pathetic

Given all the issues there are around musicians not getting paid royalties because of file sharing sites and the like, it does seem rather incongruous that one of those self-same musicians would want to ride on the back of another creative sector to create their own work. Double standards, no?

...but anyway, I'm off topic here.

can you give me the cheap ass fee? I've got a paypal account.
seriously, do you think everyone has money to spend on something that can legally use anyways?
I've got like nothing - gear wise - for like one year.
where do you live?
