I have a recording question. How do I get the tracks louder? I mix them so they are just below clipping when they are finally mixed and they are by no means quite. I would say they are in the normal volume range for a song. But there are some cd's I listen to and when the songs come in they are just super loud and about knock you in the face. I want to do that!

use compress0rz while recording to optimize the signal ur capturing.

You should have specified. You're asking way too much of your bedroom recording then. The way I took it is, you're wanting your mix to be loud with the big "in your face sound" of professional cd's. When you listen to a professional cd it's been mastered, your's hasn't. There is only so much bigness and volume you can get without the mastering process.

Foamy has it. You could always throw a compressor on the whole thing if you're desperate.

The key word there is desperate. You could really kill the entire dynamic range if you aren't careful.

U can use iziotope ozone ,a very small but powerfull vst/dx plug-in ,wich has a very cool multiband compressor ,a tool for defining wich frequensies have to be compressed and how much!!!

after compressing and limiting the voices ,u can push your master output higher ,and engage soft clipping to push the volume to its limits.

Only if you're recording analog, and I doubt thats the case here. You don't want digital clipping.

I should have specified. Thanks for the tips. I remember seeing a mastering tab in the help section of my program. I'll have to look through it and see what it says and see if there is anyway to improve on my final mix.
