recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

I don't use my soundcard to record, I use an HDR. For DI, I use a Korg PXR 4 or a Roland VG88. I then mix on the HDR, and burn it to CD-R.

well, guitar port is waaay more interactive - you get the actual knobs on the amp.. the AC30 has bass Cut treble for example

there are 15 amp models, 15 cab models - interactive distortion pedals - big muff, fuzzface, Rat, Tubescreamer..

effects are chorus flanger phaser u vibe tremolo, rotary drum and horn thing... all can be set before or after your amp

you can enter the tempo or tap tempo it and then choose the effect or delay time and it will work it out for you

eg tempo = 120 bpm. you want a repeat every crotchet = 500ms - saves a lot of time!

theres mic modelling...

4 reverb types.

its worth the money to record with, all my stuff uses it and im really happy with the tones i get

That is cool stuff. My XT has a Line 6 Edit utility that allows more interaction and tweaking on a PC when the POD is hooked up via USB. I think for the money the Guitar Port sounds like a great deal and it sounds really good from what I have heard from you guys.

can you spell G.A.S?

geez.. thats your recording nirvana.. what more can you ask for? a room full of ampts and effects at your fingertips.
i'll see if i can get one here. the PodXT is a tad expencive and if this one is (supposedly) under the 200$ mark, i cannot ask for more

thx guys for your input and making my decision easier.. now just cross your fingers so that i get it and get some silent recording going hehe

I was turned onto the guitarport by Flank. It's a great tool for my late
night ramblings. It takes some tweaking but you can dial up just about
any tone you can imagine from vintage to modern. And they sound
pretty damm close to the real deal. Here's a little clip of the guitar
port in action. I was working on backing tracks for my Dads singing
group. He called me up and wanted to know how I got the guitar to
sound just like the record?? hehe :laugh2:
MY GIRL w/t Guitar port

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

yeah i 2nd the takes a lot of tweaking... if you get one and want my patches i'm happy to give you them though...

nice tones there kmcguitars - i bet 99% of the people couldnt tell the difference between a line 6 product and the real thign if you dont tell them first... especially if they arent a guitarist

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

How do you dial those things in? Is it an onscreen sort of thingy? I've seen them on Ebay.

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

well if I'm not too late on this…. your sound card is very important its like the microphone in your chain ! you don’t need a 24 bit 96 k though I have been running a 16 bit at 44.1 for years and it works great but no matter what you get if you have a crappy (stock) soundcard you are going to running up hill.
I had the POD for a few years but sold it a few months back because the line out on my Marshall really did everything I needed... I haven't tried the Vox or the Mesa recording systemsI have heard they are great but they are pretty pricy but I recently bought a Digitech ya know its ok .... Better than a Rockman but I really only use it for a clean wah sound or just noises… never really beena big fan of Digitech to be honest
The POD was great I recorded a few songs with it ( they are on my site if youre intrested drop me an email) BUT it was much better when I ran it thru a TUBE compressor before the computer in fact I run thru tubes with everything now before I get into the computer that goes for mics, keys and even the Marshall.
Cool edit pro is a fine program! again email me if you still have questions I have been recording for about 20 years now

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

question about soundclick. how long do you have to wait till you have the songs in your Music list? imediately after upload?

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

yeah im on the free one...

i always say my stuff is instrumental because i have a theory it will get cleared faster because they wont have to check for obscene lyrics.. dunno if its true but all of my stuff comes through straight away.

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

hmm.. they MIGHT have a problem with the brewtal metal one... we might even experience an extended hiatus when the SC site goes down cos they burned all their servers and went on running amok ROFL

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

hmm could they understand it though? lol

if it has swearing you have to click parental advisory otherwise they can delete your account if they see fit

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

oh yea, i figured as much, if it's brewtal like that i should warn people beforehand LOL .. well, it doesnt have swearing, but it has blood, kill, die.. soo ;)

now they work hehe. now i gotta find me a guitar port and start some serious recording.. i might even get my pen and paper and start writing my thoughts down

ah, my band page as a whole wasnt cleared yet.

Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)

last question.. be fast before i unleash my ebay minions ;)

line 6 pod 2 vs guitarport .. is the pod 2 still software supported and are the patches/doohickeys freely downloadable? i would sure like more versatility, and that i could use it with my amp too.. but i'd be happy to just settle down with being able to record to my comp.. so guitarport right? unless i'm missing out something big with the pod 2
