Recording

Would this be a decent laptop to use for recording and schoolwork stuff.

I'm in college and don't have a lot of money so the cheaper the better I guess...

Re: Recording

Sorry, 1 more question... would I need an internet connection to record?

And what type of program could I get that would allow me to plug in my pedals and get my sounds with... not using the digital effects simulators and what-not... Thanks guys!

Re: Recording

Good enough to do what exactly? Do you want a 4track sketch pad @ 16/44 or 100tracks of virtual instruments for example?

I'm not too familiar with computers so I have no idea what you are talking about.

Basically what I want to do is record a few things to the computer and have the ability to burn them to a cd...

You may want to do a little reading on the subject first in that case. You have to know what you want before anyone can tell you how to get there.

Re: Recording

People were recording CD quality audio just fine in 1995 and before, with Pentium-1s. You can't possibly buy a computer today that is too slow.

The audio quality on the line in will suck. Getting a USB soundcard is probably required, although nothing wrong with trying the built in sound.

You must have some form of speaker simulator or crunch and distortion sounds will be unusable. I don't know whether decent software versions exist for cheap on Windoze.
