Red Devil Bridge Pickup Full Review

my version of the "pure strat zone" is pretty narrowly defined since thats where i live a lot, so for me, no. it doesnt sound like a vintage strat pup or ssl1. it is a very usable tone that isnt dissimilar to a strat pup

Alot of single sized rails pickups sound pretty stratty in parallel.

I use an air norton s that sounds super thick in series, but gets a stratty sound that I like better than real single coils sometimes.

the red devil is a pretty middy pup in series, i have a trio of them so cant say how it works with a single coil but i do split the neck and middle which i like a lot

My Strat doesn't have any buzz either. I suppose if another player with a heavier right hand attack played it, it might.

I have a very heavy picking hand and learned how to do scales and arpeggios with the advice of my instructor at the time using zero drive or compression. "If you can play it and make it sound good with no OD, no distortion, no reverb etc than you can always make it sound good" he always used to say.

I pluck hard enough to make the notes jump up and compress from the picking alone lol.

While the neck relief is golden my Strat could definitely use a fret leveling and I'm pretty sure it has a swollen neck pocket. I'm happy it plays as well as it does having a very well PLEK'd Les Paul to compare it to.

Hate to admit it but I am an old school Gibson/humbucker fanboy at heart. You grow up in the late 70s listening to everything Ace Frehley ever played and then High School in the early 80s you're gonna want humbuckers!

All in all though I have to say that I am happier with my Strat than I ever have been (minus the 20-30 min of happy Hendrix style double stop riffs I played right after getting it).

Until I have the $$$ to get a fret leveling or possible refretting and the neck pocket taken care of I just gotta put up with a little fret slap.
