Refin question, and which body? butnut, KMC, Blueline?

Frito's Better Half
Ok, first which body should I get? I'm leaning toward the body from Rondo Guitars. Alder, swimming pool route, 40 bucks. http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=850849|1207914&PRID=1284445

or should I go for something like mighty mite or ebay? I dont want warmoth or usacg, I'm looking for something cheap and plain, not custom (I dont need anything custom anyways).

now, refin question. How would I get my body to look like the Ibeenhad SZ320 in weathered brown on pg 76 of the newest American Music Supply?
Or the walnut finish on the Hwy 1 fatstrat? The faded SG special in brown?

Re: Refin question, and which body? butnut, KMC, Blueline?

What exactly happen with the sunburst body you have now?
Is it beyond repair Or just no longer good for a translucent finish?
Or ya just disgusted with it ? Saga bodies can be had real cheap
on ebay, And they come already sand sealed. So you would have to spray brown dye on it. I've heard some horror stories about saga, But the ones
I had where O.K. ( Ya get what ya pay for ) try www.musikraft.com
they have some 2nds they sell cheap on ebay. I think there ebay name is customwoods ? I never used the new mighty mite stuff so I can comment.
Good luck and I hope everything worked out for ya. :)

BTW , The body in your link says it has a 2 1/4 neck pocket??
The std. is 2 3/16 (something to watch out for !!!)

that sunburst has just pissed me off to no end. I try and strip the grain filler, and the whole veneer comes with it. I wouldnt have a problem if I could find a decent alder veneer that would do good and make it look like a one piece instead of a POS. I'll either jump on the musikraft or the rondo body. Any ideas on spraying and distressing?

project guitar veneer tips Here's a cool link! I'm gonna try this one day on something? On a
strat body you would have to do a burst to hide the line. You can find
venners on ebay or any good wood workers store. Just a Idea ?

Anybody else got any finishing tips?

If you looking to do a brown finish, This is how I would do it. 1st sand the
raw wood w/t 320 (just a light scuff) Than spray one coat of sand sealer
Let it dry a day of two than sand it with 320 (than repeat process) This
will give a solid base to work with. Then get some brown dye . from either
www.reranch.com or www.stewmac.com Then get a preval unit from
home depot etc. Disolve the dye in Lacquer thinner over nigth. Than
mist it onto the body to you get to the desired color. Go slow and be
careful not to get to close or to heavy w/t the spray. Cuz' you are
spraying thinner w/t pigment . It will desolve the sand sealer :saeek:
reranch has a great 101 on finishing. They spell it out much better than
I can in a post. :)

Good tips. That body does'nt look too bad, but normally you'd like something with a nice grain, pref 1 piece for any stained finish. Do what has been mentioned and your choice of clear.
