If you came back and told us you finished it in nitro, you’d blow my mind to bits. Maybe the process of getting it in is time consuming but just imagine how it would feel to own something you finished yourself in nitro.

I don't fetishize nitro; but I do hate hard, plasticky finishes. By that token, I found Duplicolor to be a good fit for me. No regrets.

I did dakota red nitro on a yamaha pacifica once, it's too much work
and I don't want this finish to yellow much over the years, it would turn green and while cool looking, thats not what I'm going for

yeah nitro is twice the price, and 10x as long to let it offgas.
I want this to look good but I want results on-time and under-budget and duplicolor is the ticket.
The Fender metallic colors were acrylic auto paint and Leo never cared so... yeah ^_^

Unfortunately i sprayed the primer outside and while moving it back inside, something scratched the wet primer pretty deep, and some piece of plant matter apparently fell onto it at during that time as well so I I'm gonna pick up another can of primer cuz while I had enough to sand and respray the scratch area, the tiny little tree bud thing stuck in there pretty good and so I've got it sanded out but it shows bare wood there, and in sanding the primer I got a few sand through areas around the edge to touch up. So I got to get another can of primer cuz it surprisingly took the whole can do far doing two medium wet coats and fixing the spots. But yeah I'm looking forward to finishing the prep work but last time I rushed it and I want this to look really really smooth and even before I get the color started

Got white duplicolor GM Arctic White on there, looked around town for good tape but no luck so still looking online and finding the best tape and trying not to spend $45 for three rolls but looking like that's what needs to happen.
Getting the duplicolor to flow nicely was really easy on the sides but on the back it seems like it was really difficult to get good wet passes without sputter and overspray. Rattle cans are... I mean I'm a n00b on a budget and can't complain too much but it's kinda a PITA

As noted above, paint is paint. It's not cogent, and doesn't know what it's going on. Nearly all guitar makers use what is referred to as automotive finishes, only because paint makers market to their largest segment of potential buyers - body shops.
Guitar shops buy pints and quarts - body shops buy gallons and 5 gallons. Get it? Who would you kowtow to?

Yep at each stage I'm gently cleaning out the bottom with a qtip dipped in paint thinner to keep electrical continuity and keep the bridge things clear cuz yes I did forget to tape those

Once you're done I'd be sure to clear the inside of the posts themselves or they could inhibit the bridge's rocking. Or you could try to extract them now, after using a razor to cut the finish around them, and give them a good clean.

Yep and it'll be a minute before I lay down clear anyways stuff keeps coming up and thankfully I got the bills paid for the month but gotta wait to get paid again before I go online for the masking tape ha ha
So far this is fun but at the same time I can't wait to be done!!

Tape is on it's way, scotch 233+ auto body tape in 3 sizes from 1/8 to 1/2. $27 with two day shipping. Hope this works!
I like duplicolor. Already the guitar does not smell much like paint. other guitar, when I used nitro, it was crazy fumes for a while 0_0
