Regular pickup on Fender bridge and the Epiphone Probucker

Hi guys!

2 quick questions in one.

1. Is the tone altered heavily if I put a regular spaced humbucker on a Fender bridge? Will it sound really unbalanced?

2. Thoughts and tone analysis of the Epiphone Probucker (bridge)?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Regular pickup on Fender bridge and the Epiphone Probucker

The Epi Probucker will sound obscenely bright in a Strat bridge, if that is what you are trying to ask. But to answer specifically your first question, humbuckers are very popular in the bridge of a Strat if you are looking for versatility. Most people auto split the bridge in position 2 as well for even more tonal flexibility. With the right bridge pickup (I usually use a moderate output humbucker that isn't too bright, that way I get a bit of boost in position 1 and the split tone isn't overpowered by the middle pickup in position 2).

The Epiphone Probucker is a decent pickup in a Les Paul style guitar, but it definitely will not play well with the longer scale, brighter woods, and lack of tone control on a Strat. It might however work if you put an A2 in it and/or move the middle tone control on your Strat to the bridge and the neck tone control governs the single coils.

The Probucker bridge is meaty, thick and warm, with emphasis in broad, dominant mids and a rich bass response. It has a very modest output which is good for clarity. Had it in a Les Paul I just sold. No idea how it will roll in a Strat, and it's something I'd love to try.

FYI, the Epi Probucker p'ups come with A2 magnets. The Probucker 3 works fine in the bridge of a 25.5" instrument.

My bad, I was thinking of the Epi Classic Pros, which are A5. I have never tried the Probuckers, disregard my earlier post.
