Rehousing a pedal....

Re: Rehousing a pedal....

It would require a bit of modding to get right, The Bad Monkey and other pedals like it use a momentary switch to flip-flop a transistorized switching section. There are ways to remove/bypass this and make it true bypass, but you could just as easily use a momentary switch of the same style, in place of the existing one. Then just pop the whole thing in a different box.

Re: Rehousing a pedal....

Small Bear Electronics stocks momentary stomp switches, like this one and this one. They would give you the booteek-pedal vibe you're looking for, while letting you retain the buffer and FET-bypass circuit in the Bad Monkey. It would be juswt a matter of solder two wires onto this switch.

Re: Rehousing a pedal....

If you scroll down about halfway on this thread, there's some pics of an MXR-style switch within the original housing: (took a little bit of work but didn't look too complicated)

Re: Rehousing a pedal....

you can get a momentary dpdt switch that has the same appearance of the mxr 3pdt's but is a direct appearance and is actually more comfortable to press because it doesnt click, its just a push, just google momentary dpdt switch and you should get some hits

Re: Rehousing a pedal....

The best way to re-house a Bad Monkey:

1. Sell the Bad Monkey
2. Buy a MXR GT-OD
3. You're done

Re: Rehousing a pedal....

Didn't like the GT-OD...

Really? It's one of the best overdrives I've tried. Give the Wylde overdrive a shot. Maybe you're an asymmetrical clipping kind of guy. And before I give any more advice, maybe I need to get out and finally try the Route 808 and the Fulldrive 2.

To be honest, I don't even like the Bad Monkey much.... haha... it is just like a backup overdrive... I've already had something happen once to an amp I was using and had to use it through a SS Carvin from the late 90s.

I'm not really a big OD/Dist pedal guy... I like gain from the amp...

This is going to sound wierd but I tend to put my amps gain low and I have 3 Boosters right now...

1 is for being on all the time, adds a little oomph.
the second is to go to medium gain...
the third is my SHO and that gets crazy heavy...

it all sounds really natural... I just have a problem with the volume... It pushes the volume up a bit with each boost but Lazarus is letting me borrow his Analogman Bi Comp and the Dyna comp side really low evens out the boosts as they come on, so I have a really natural sound that I am really happy with... I might pick up a dyna comp soon....

not putting down od/dist guys at all, in fact the best overdrive sound I have heard live was a Klon (Jeff Beck) or a Plimsoul (Mike Sullivan). The 2 guys I did not like the sound of both played through their amps... but they both seemed to have extreme settings... one guy used a lot of bass and the other guy had a really bright sound so yeah...

I have been thinking about picking up a fuzz... like the voodoo labs and setting the gain again really low... so just another level...

I just realized I'm a nut....
