Relic project: a nylon strap

Since DiMarzio doesn't offer cream/stained/light brown cliplocks, I guess I'll put matters in my own hand.

LOTS of expired chamomile, a ton of coffee, a dash of vinegar and a lot of vanilla scent because why not.

Will update. Hoping to get something that looks dirty with actual dirt or sand instead of grey dust.

Surprised they haven't tried to patent/tm some colour there actually

Re: Relic project: a nylon strap

You might also try putting it in the washing machine with dark colored clothing items, like a new pack of black socks that hasn't been washed yet, or some new brown bath towels.

Once it's darkened a bit, bury it in the yard for a few days and soak the "grave" to let it soak up dirt stains. Not sure what kind of mud you have in your area, so it may take a while.

When it comes out of the ground, wash it in a bucket with water only, no soap, and not in the washing machine unless you want the wife to beat you to death with it, then pop it in the dryer, or let it hang dry near a heat source. That should bake the dirt into it, and make it nearly impossible to wash clean.
Also don't overlook things like motor oil.

Once it's dry, wash it afterwards to at least take off the excess dirt and bacteria - no sense getting a rash for the sake of a relic job

Dr New, tho your suggestion of burying it sounds silly, it may be spot on.. I have lots of "dirt stained" things that stains wont come out of. so, quite possible it may work..

Well, one thing that makes white cloth straps turn is body oil from sweat, and dirt which is attracted to human skin like fire to paper, especially if you're really trying to not get dirty.

If this is a Cotton clip lock, it should be easy. If it's a nylon seatbelt type, you might have to go to extremes because I think the material itself comes from the supplier with stain guarding applied.

LOL, I thought you meant what would happen to a while shirt if he wore that strap over it :omg:

Re: Relic project: a nylon strap

It should be noted that extreme aging techniques will also affect the structural integrity of the material itself.

Something you can try to "beat" the material down so it's more receptive to stains and actual dirt/sand, is putting it in a bucket with rocks. If the bucket has a lid you can latch closed, you can suspend the bucket sideways and rotate it to tumble the rocks.
If you have a dirty job like construction or factory work, take it to work with you. Strap it to the bottom of your work shoes and walk around on it.
