Relocating bridge pup

I'm rerouting and backfilling the bridge pup slot on my 7 string and repainting it (obviously).

I'm thinking about grabber blue or white.

Re: Relocating bridge pup

I screwed up and let the router jump on me, so I'm gonna make a new template and move it forward another couple of mm to straighten the line out..... or just bondo it.

Re: Relocating bridge pup

Update: i ended up moving it half the distance i originally planned, so about half the width of a bobbin, which made all the difference in the world.

I'm thinking about making a pickguard instead of doing bodywork. Not sure yet.

The Custom7 is still too dark and compressed to do anything except metal, but the PAF7 sounds really good for everything instead of just being an ice pick. Something with touch less treble and a hair more output will be perfect.... probably a Blaze Neck.

Re: Relocating bridge pup

I remember being amazed at how much difference moving the bridge pickup even a quarter inch made. Night and day. I just used the old pickguard; you can see a gap in the pic, but it hardly shows onstage.

I love the color. If you can do it without the pickguard by filling in the hole, I'd go with that. It would be a shame to cover up that color.

I dig it for muscle cars and stuff, but it's not working for me on this guitar.
