Well, I started stripping the finish back, only to discover a rather serious crack running down the middle of the neck pocket and well into the control cavity, which caused the neck to be less than secure. So, I;ve gone ahead and ordered one of these:

This should be here in the next week or so, so I'll keep you updated on the progress. The seafoam green is a little paler in real life than in this pic.

I'm thinking mint green pickguard, and replacement pickup covers and jack cup.

Should be very nice. It's hard to capture the mint in photo, but Mr. Carter has done a fine job since taking over the photography position there nearly a year ago.

Yeah, got to be, it's got a nice bit of aging and battle scars. Should look very cool and vintage-vibe.

I'm going to change all the plastic parts, but the rest is staying.

One of my basses is SFG. It has a 3-ply white/black/white pickguard. In my opinion, hard white compliments the in-your-face green-ness better than off-white or parchment. Each to his/her own. SFG has Attitude.

i mean if you're gonna ditch rainbow, you might as well upgrade to green.

green guitars always sound better.
