Remove screw coil out of pickup

Re: Remove screw coil out of pickup

I hope you are feeling better!

I have had this post in the back of my mind for a day or two. If you are trying to shave weight off your guitar and don't want to drill or plane the body you might consider some Lace Alumitone pickups. They weigh almost nothing.

Plastic knobs on your tuning machines saves a surprising amount of weight.

If you have metal volume/tone knobs, replace them with plastic.

Bridge & tailpiece aluminum instead of zinc or brass or steel.

I have even seen aluminum strap buttons.

Those small changes would add up to a noticeable difference.

Dave,
Thanks, I have a chambered basswood Strat, no middle pickup all plastic knobs(2), single ply pickgaurd, a triangle plastic guitar pick drilled out for a strap lock, very light strap. Single coil neck, WLH bridge pickup. So yeah, I have covered all things, I even tried one of those "waist" straps but it did not move normally and felt too odd. But I gave it a shot. Thank you for thinking of me, I appreciate it!

A headless guitar might be a consideration, too. The balance point is shifted, and they tend to feel a lot lighter even if they aren't in actual weight.

Thanks Mincer,
My spine cannot be fooled. I do appreciate the help and time you guys put in, and ItsaBass instructions were right on, I could follow them easily, and it works exactly as I thought it would. Thanks fo the suggestion, but I just got hit with a $4,700.00 condo bill, and I am really broke. Guitar strings only at this point. I have my guitars down to 5.14 - 6 pounds, so pretty light, and we only do a 50 minute set. The last one was recorded and I thought I played better than the recording shows. So what I think and reality don't mesh. I need to improve, not by rote, but in how I use my notes to convey my feelings much better than I do now. I think I kinda sucked!
Well, thanks to you all,
