Removing Pickup Covers?

Hey. I have a GFS Dream 90 (like the Phat Cat) with a chrome cover, but it won't fit in my humbucker-routed pickguard for some reason. I'm hoping that removing the cover will let it fit. How does one remove pickup covers?

Re: Removing Pickup Covers?

If it's not fitting in with the cover on, you might want to look more into why it's not fitting, rather than what you can do to make it fit.

You can make a big mess removing a cover. (Not that I've ever overheated anything or anything...)

Well, I emailed the company and they said the cover does it make slightly bigger...Their solution was to shave the pickguard slightly to accomodate it. Do you think that would be a better? It just seems to be slightly bigger all around, I suppose.

+1.

my friend tried to get the jimmy page look on his 1968 reissue lp (freakin $3000) by taking off the pickup cover on one of the pickups, and he ruined the pickup completely. he had to order a new one. i think he overheated it.

Okee dokee. Do I just use a file, or...? Things to keep in mind when doing this? Looks like I'll need to shave off 0.1cm on one end, 0.2cm on the other.

Grab your girlfriend's toe nail file and go to town...when she's not looking. A small piece of sandpaper would work in a pinch.

Sweet, thanks. Took your advice and I just finished. Now the pickup fits perfectly. Alls I need is a pair of screws...
