Removing stain in finish from pick holder placed on front of guitar

I am thinking of purchasing a guitar. It has a nice mahogany finish, but the previous owner put a pick holder right on the face of the guitar.

Now the finish is lightened there. It is a natural finish showing the wood of this beautiful guitar.

Are there any tricks or treatments to removing or repairing this large triangular area from the front of the guitar? It is quite a blemish.

wow, bummer. you could take it to a conservator and they can tint the area and probably get pertty close but over time the tinted area may change relative to the other areas. that was not a smart thing to do. don't remove anything, the coats of clear are not uv rated so it morphed.

Yeah, I am not sure about this. What a way to ruin a great guitar!!!

i say just leave it be, adds some mojo to the guitar.

I wonder if the rest of the guitar darkened up instead of the other way around?

I second leaving it alone.

that's exactly what has happened.

Do you guys think that with time, the guitar would darken a bit more uniformly?

Thanks

I don't think so...you could try some dark brown Kiwi shoe polish exactly on the spot, let it sit a few minutes and rub it off. Repeat a few times and it will shade it.

I think so. Talking from personal experience with pine wood. The wood darkens only up to a certain point. After some years it stops darkening and remains the same.

This doesn't mean that the guitar's wood (except for the triangular part) has already stoped darkening.

+ I don't know how mahogany behaves, I have only observed pine.

Agreed (from another bald guy, I just don't consider being bald a "blemish"...if that fact adds anything at all)

Will the seller consider reducing the price because of the blem? I'd buy it and leave the blem/finish alone IMHO

You could always mask off around the light bit and expose the lightened area to bright u.v. for periods of time when your not playing it(idealy a tanning lamp or such like). The finish is obviously not u.v. protective so this should help over a relatively short time scale.
