Renaming the Jazz.

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

:sword: Anyway, what do you guys think of Vintage 5? It has vintage output
and an Alnico 5 magnet? The Vintage 5 and 59 sound like appropriate neck pup names. Forget preserving the Jazz name, if less people are buying it for that reason.
Seymour knows it's a business. The Jazz is a good pickup that too many people overlook simply because of it's name. IMO.

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

Maybe it ought to have two names. They have a product they call the Jazz Bright '59 or something. They could call it the Singing Demon for the real shred heads. Same product, different boxes for different demographics.

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

I think the Jazz is a perfect name. The confusion may come because most people associate "Jazz" with a warm Joe Pass tone, but that can be acheived by rolling back the tone knob. Like Joe Pass did. :burnout:

The Seymour Duncan Jazz pickup is history. It has the perfect name in my opinion.

And in defense of Jeremy, he is (and has always been) one of the most fair administrators on here. I find it insulting that anyone with a peeve of any sort wouldn't just private message him (or anyone else for that matter) rather than making it a public spectacle.

Out of all the people on here, Jeremy has probably spent the most time responding to questions and trying to help people (he had the most posts by FAR on the old board). And he is NOT a biased Duncan promoter. Everyone from the old board knows he uses Duncans, DiMarzios and anything that sounds good. That's why his advice is great.

I also like the fact that this board is not a place for kiddie hijinx and profanity. And I'm NO saint. Believe me.

If you don't like the rules, don't post.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

Mac, couldn't agree more. Mist I'm surprised your a tone member and can suggest that this sight isn't fair in its posting of other gear - I've heard good things about about demarzio and Fralin P/u's several times - there is even a current post encouraging someone to leave in their stock pups if thats the sound they like. Try posting your criticisms in an adult fashion and I'm sure you won't have any problems.

BtW I like the Jazz name because evidently less people are likely to try it AWESOME secret ingrediant for the rest of us :burnout:
But if we must - how about the 'Fusion'

Anything that's posted publically is up for public scrutany. That's what online forums are for. If you don't want everyone to stick their nose into it next time (assuming there is one) you might want to consider keeping the whole matter private.

I think they should keep the name "Jazz" for the pickup. In general, I've found that guitar pickup names don't really describe how a pickup sounds. More often than not, they describe some sort of history behind the pickup. There are a few noteable exceptions, but for the most part you have to hear the pickup or read a description to get an idea of what it sounds like.

LOL....I'm just waiting on your 10k antiquity production model.:bigthumb:

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

yeah me too!! it would save me a bunch of cash on cs pups. i have a 9.4k antiquity with an off the shelf antiquity neck pup in my epi lp and it sounds killer!! the pups in the epi werent as bad as i thought theyd be but thru a cranked tube amp they were a little muddy, especially the neck pup with the jr cranked up all the way. now its les paul heaven, or at least the epi version :newangel:

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

Idon't mind the name Jazz but remebering is history with Jeff Beck how about JB Neck:rolleyes: :kidding:

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

thats where the name jazz came from. it used to be called a jm/jb set the jm was the john milner. now its the jazz model and jazz blues model

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

I say keep it the same. Other pup names do not suggest much about its characteristics compared with others eg. the Custom, Custom Custom, tonezone, invader, distortion, x2n etc etc. Im sure anybody looking for a pup would read about it than go by the name, or would ask advice from the forum. Well that seems like the best way to me.

Re: Renaming the Jazz.

To Lee: I guess freeing up the short hand version of the name Richard didn't work out. You'll just have to go back to calling **** Dale, Richard Dale.

To TheMist: I find it interesting that you seem to have an axe to grind as well as the fact that your IP is the same AOL one that we had all the trouble with several weeks ago. If you are not happy here, feel free to go back to guitar.com at any time.
