Replacement for a JB

Re: Replacement for a JB

Hi,
While I don't have one, from the YouTube examples and some I've heard posted here by forumites, I think the PATB series is highly underrated.
I am thinking of a Rough cut A5 for my 59/Custom, just to give it a little more "crunchy"
attitude, a little "grittier". I will never replace where it is though. On my stage Strat.

Re: Replacement for a JB

Thanks a lot for all the new suggestions. As the OP, I must clarify that the thread is a few months old and I had already changed the pickup. Based on the first set of suggestions, I decided to go the TB-11 Custom Custom route. By the moment I am satisfied with it. It added a good amount of the lower frequencies I was missing with the JB. Anyway, if in the future I decide to change again, I will come back and look at all these new suggestions ;)

Congrats! The Custom Custom remains one of my favorite pickups for all types of music. And it splits well, as you have probably figured out.

That pickup certainly sounds like one I'd be interested in as well, but I'm not clear on how high the overall output is. How does it compare to the JB for overall output?

Agreed. If someone wants "big", the PATB delivers that. I suppose there must be something about the strong response across the strings due to the design, but the PATB1 and 2 at least in my experience sound very brawny, with the 2 being a scorcher. A good match for a thinnish sounding neck thru shredder.

It is slightly less, but it doesn't have that high mid thing...more like lower and true mids. So it doesn't sound 'sharp'. There is more body, there. It has a better clean sound than the JB, too (to me), and is more touch-sensitive.
