My replacement pups arrived yesterday, so I went to radioshack and got some thinner 60/40 solder, tip tinner + cleaner, some rosin, desolder braid and pump, etc... Just got finished a couple of hours ago, took my time and went real patient like and presto! I, ladies and gents, am back in buisness! Things go so much better with the right tools and a LOT of patience! All solder joints are as shinny as a new nickel. The rosin helped tremendously with the grounds on the pots. Anyways, the new pups are absolutely dead quiet. No noise at all so I am super stoked! I just wanted to thank everyone again who helped me figure this out! Now that I can hold a note forever without a static overkill I'm in bliss! Btw.... Seymour Duncan rocks! :friday:

Yeah I spent $70 to have a tech install my pickups once. Once, and only once.
I've done it myself about 30 times (or more) since then. It's easy, fun, and free!

Dave Mustaine LiveWires. Can't explain the tone, you would have to play a set. Honestly they don't sound like other actives I've played before? They sound umm very passive like except for massive amounts of gain. Umm just very versatile. The previous set I found defective with alot of help from the pro's on here in earlier posts. I just figured if I was gonna install another set I was going to go as slow and professional like that I could so I don't have anymore problems period! :werd:

+1. I had 3 guitars installed with SD pickups about 2-3 years ago and paid on average ... $70 or so per guitar. 6 months ago I decided to try my first install - took at couple of tries but I got it. Last month I did another guitar with my first DiMarzios.

I'm actually in motion of redoing a fender hmt I've had for a few years now. It has a dimarzio of some sort in the bridge and a fender silver lace sensor in the neck with 24 frets and a floyd schaller (spelling) trem semi hollow bodied. Was an awesome guitar til I dropped it on pavement and the electronics took a crap. It had a mini toggle also for coil splitting. Sounded really good. Looked good too! You guys think I should keep the stock pups or upgrade? I really like this axe I don't wanna let it go...

Jrex, I am thrilled that you took your time, and bought/used the extra chemicals and tools to do a proud job!
Most people blow off the importance of soldering with proper skills and tools. Often times, it is because soldering seems to be a rather cheap/easy "small job" at first look. Other times, it is because they have never seen better skills in the final product.
