Replacement Pups Advice

Hi all:

I've been lurking on this forum for a few weeks and have found it to be one of the most friendly and helpful I've seen. So, here I am making my first post.

I have only been playing for a few months and have an Ibanez Rg270 as my first guitar. It's a basswood / maple / FR trem. I'm still not sure if I will keep it for the long haul or not, but so far as a beginner player, I'm basically happy with it, pickups aside. I find the bridge too trebly and the neck too muddy.

I have a so-so amp to get me started (Crate GX15). It works, but I know that will be replaced one day for sure.

I'm playing with the idea of replacing the pups - starting with the bridge - with a 59, custom or JB, but not sure which would do me best.

My musical tastes are mostly bluesy classic rock (LedZep, Clapton, Sabbath, Areosmith) to Skynyrd to VH, GnR / VR and other hard rock and maybe some old school metal.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The DiMarzio Breed is probably one of the best pick-ups I've heard when taming off a Floyd Rose bridge, that is if you don't mind using high-output pick-ups. If you find the Breed for Bridge too middy/bassy, then put the Breed for Neck on the bridge and get an Air Norton/Paf Joe for the neck. You could also follow the "tried and tested" Air Norton and Air Zone for your neck and bridge respectively.

Get the JB. Its the most versatile pickup out there. I've used it in my RG 570 (similar construction to the 270) and it sounded great.

I have a tb-14 custom 5 bridge, ssl-4 quarterpound middle and sh-ph1n pearly gates neck in a rg550 and I would say it is nice. Really cleaned up the sound of the 550.
